Route 141 Pavement Test Reportedly Bewilders Researchers

According to West News Magazine, researchers are "baffled" by air quality results from an experimental section of Route 141.

According to an article in West News Magazine, researchers with Iowa State University’s National Concrete Pavement Technology Center (NCPTC) are "baffled" by air quality results from the new southbound Route 141. The article explains that a 1,500-foot stretch of the road, south of Olive Boulevard, is actually an experiment. It was reportedly topped with a 2-inch layer of concrete mixed with titanium dioxide which would ultimately improve air quality in that area. West News stated that the Route 141 pavement experiment added $130,000 to the cost of the project and is believed to be the first U.S. location for testing such a smog-alleviating concept.  (Read West News article here.) MoDOT Receives Two State Recycling Awards

MoDOT made the announcement this week. One of the awards pertains to the Route 141 expansion project in West St. Louis County.

One of the awards is for the Route 141 expansion project that runs through Town and Country, Chesterfield, Creve Coeur and Maryland Heights. Highway 141, I-270 Among MoDOT's Top 2012 St. Louis Area Road Improvements

The Missouri Department of Transportation released its list of major road projects completed in 2012. Several of the projects, including the Highway 141 expansion and Interstate 270, impact Town and Country and Manchester residents.

Last year, the Missouri Department of Transportation made some significant improvements to roadways in the western and southern regions of St. Louis County. Some of the projects improved what transportation professionals deem to be the busiest interstates in the greater St. Louis area. Fight Leads to Gun Drawn in Traffic Near Highway 141 and Big Bend

Police are still trying to determine what led up to a fight that ended with a gun drawn by a Eureka fireman near Highway 141 and Big Bend Road Friday.

UPDATED: 7:05 p.m., Friday- St. Louis County police tell Patch they are investigating after a man broke out a gun to apparently break up a fight in the middle of traffic at the intersection of Highway 141 and Big Bend Road Friday afternoon. St. Louis County Police Officer Randy Vaughn tells Patch police got the call around 3 p.m. Friday of a road rage incident at the intersection.  Investigators are still trying to determine what led up to the brawl and a gun being brandished, but Manchester Police Chief Tim Walsh tells Patch a fight broke out and a Eureka firefighter pulled out a gun in an apparent attempt to break it up. Two Hospitalized After Crash at Route 141 And Highway 40 Monday

Two vehicles were involved in this crash at Route 141 and Highway 40 Monday afternoon. One driver had to be extricated from their car.

Town and Country police and West County EMS and Fire Protection District rescue crews responded to the accident at Route 141 and Highway 40 around 1 p.m. Monday. No word yet on exactly how the crash happened, but one car struck a utility pole head on at the corner of the Highway 40 entrance ramp and South Outer 40 Road. Deputy Chief Tim Dorsey tells Patch they got the call just before 1 p.m. Two SUVs were involved in the accident. The only person in each vehicle was the driver. One of the drivers was trapped and had to be extricated from the car, Dorsey tells Patch. Both drivers were taken to the hospital with what are described by paramedics and police as "non life …

Route 141 Closing South of Route 370 Friday

MoDOT is closing the road to replace a railroad crossing. Drivers are advised to use an alternate route.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is closing Route 141, the Earth City Expressway, at the railroad crossing just south of Route 370 Friday morning so crews can replace the railroad crossing. That portion of the road is closing at 8 a.m. Friday and will reopen before noon Tuesday, Oct. 9, MoDOT stated in a news release. All work is weather permitting.  Since Route 141 is will be closed, MoDOT is alerting drivers to use alternate routes. Woods Mill Opens Between Parkway Central and St. Luke’s Hospital

MoDOT plans to open that portion of Woods Mill Road late Saturday afternoon. It is the final phase of construction affecting access to the Parkway Central campus.

The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to open Woods Mill Road between St. Luke’s Hospital and the Parkway Central Campus late Saturday afternoon. "Once Woods Mill reopens, students, parents and teachers will be able to use Ladue Road to get to the Parkway Central School campus," MoDOT stated in a news release Friday. MoDOT Spokesperson Andrew Gates tells Patch after the opening of Woods Mill there this weekend, there are no further changes in that area to access at Parkway. TRAFFIC ALERT: Route 141 Lanes Open, But Parkway Detour Tuesday

MoDOT is opening lanes on Route 141 in West County between St. Luke's Hospital and Olive Boulevard Monday, but Parkway students will take a detour Tuesday when classes start.

Route 141 lanes are opening Monday afternoon in both directions between between St. Luke's Hospital and Olive Boulevard in West County. Lanes are set to open between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.  Meanwhile, Parkway Central students should plan on taking a detour when school starts Tuesday. Woods Mill Road between Parkway Central and St. Lukes will remain closed for two more weeks, according to MoDOT. TRAFFIC ALERT: Route 141 Traffic Shifting Tuesday

MoDOT is shifting lanes on West County'a Route 141 Tuesday between Olive Boulevard and St. Luke's Hospital Road.

The changes to lanes on Route 141 in West County are taking place just before noon Tuesday.  Road crews are shifting southbound traffic so they can work building a concrete barrier between lanes on that stretch of road. Route 141 Traffic Down to One Lane South of Parkway

MoDOT has taken the stretch of Route 141 between Parkway Central High School and St. Luke's Hospital down to one lane.

The Missouri Department of Transportation said in a news release that although much of the new Route 141 opened this weekend, drivers can expect continued lane restrictions through the remainder of the project.  (Sign up here for the FREE Patch Newsletter, including Breaking News Alerts.) Currently, the Town and Country stretch of Route 141 between Parkway Central High School and St. Luke's Hospital is reduced to one lane and these restrictions are expected to last less than one month.
