Westminster's Penning Takes Extra Steps To Propel Volleyball Career

The senior will play volleyball in college at Pepperdine.

You can't teach height, as the saying goes. Mitch Penning, a standout senior on the Westminster Christian Academy Volleyball team had the height thing down. But in recent years, he knew that he didn't know enough about flexibility and weight training. That was until he met Tracy Fober. Fober, a strength coach and physical therapist, is the owner of Iron Maven Physical Health & Performance and has a workout space in the light industrial district just outside Creve Coeur. Fober works with prep athletes looking to maximize potential and to build a foundation for the future, as well as older athletes looking to work through years of chronic use and injury. Is Westminster's Mitch Penning St. Louis' Next Olympian?

A recent feature story on Westminster volleyball player Mitch Penning pegs the senior as a potential future Olympian.

Westminster Christian Academy volleyball player Mitch Penning is starting is senior year Wednesday and is set to graduate in 2013.    (For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) However, there is potentially much more to the teen's future. A recent profile of Penning spotlights him as a possible future olympian. KSDK's Katie Felts recent feature story on the Town and Country student highlights his ability on the volleyball court and and suggests he could be "this area's next Olympian." He's already a middle blocker on the U.S. Youth National Team, according to his coach at Westminster Jean Evans. Evans, who coached USA Volleyball this summer, said Penning was named First Team All-State and First Team All Metro for 2012…
