The so-called "perversion files" were released last week by order of the Oregon Supreme Court. They were used as evidence in a 2010 lawsuit against the Scouts in a molestation case that resulted in a jury awarding $20 million to a man molested by an assistant scoutmaster in the 1980s. In the final debate between Missouri Senate candidates Claire McCaskill and Todd Akin, sharply worded barbs flew as the candidates pushed their talking points. Sen. McCaskill painted the race as one between a moderate vs. extremist. Rep. Akin pushed McCaskill as someone who votes with President Barack Obama "98 percent of the time." The debate, moderated by Mike Bush of KSDK and held at Clayton High School, featured one question each from a panel of local media, the Clayton Chamber of Commerce and a Clayton High School journalism student. NEWS NEARBY: Deer Control Collaboration Could Allow Bow Hunting in Ballwin, Ellisville

The two cities are making steps on an ordinance that would allow bow hunting for deer on private property.

The City of Town and Country and Manchester have had issues of their own, with Town and Country even putting a deer management plan in place. Now, the cities of Ballwin and Ellisville are working together on a new ordinance as an effort to mitigate deer control and allow bow hunting for deer on private property. In Ellisville's draft of the legislation, the ordinance would permit licensed bow hunters to hunt during deer season after notifying the police department and with permission of the property owner. The private property must be three acres or larger. Ellisville City Manager Kevin Bookout said the biggest difference between Ellisville's ordinance and Ballwin's would be the minimum property size: Ellisville with a minimum of three …

Auction Nets $76K for Missouri's Unclaimed Property Account Owners

More than $76,000 was collected for Unclaimed Property owners at Missouri Treasurer Clint Zweifel’s Unclaimed Property Auction held in Columbia, MO, on Wednesday. More than 1,000 items originally from safe deposit boxes were auctioned, including Beatles collectibles, a $1,000 bill, rare coins and jewelry. The largest single winning bid was $7,600 for an unmarked silver-colored band and ring with a clear stone. Nearly 70 bidders traveled from across the United States to participate in the auction, according to a release from Zweifel's staff.  “The money from this auction will never become the state’s, I hold it for the original owner or their heir until they come to me to claim it,” Zweifel stated in the release. “My Unclaimed Property team…

Standard & Poor's downgraded the nation's credit rating sending the U.S. markets on a wild ride last week. How do local credit ratings stack up?

Last week, investors took the stock market on a wild ride after Standard & Poor’s Aug. 5 downgrade of the U.S. credit rating. The country lost its top AAA score, and for the first time ever, was dropped to the second-best rating of AA+. Investors reacted to a series of events through the week, starting with the credit downgrade, which sent the market plummeting by 634 points on Monday. It rebounded 429 points on Tuesday after the Federal Reserve announce it would leave interest rates low through 2013. Wednesday it crashed again by 519 points, then bounced back 423 points on Thursday following news that new applications for unemployment had dropped.
