Support Backstoppers With a Holiday Ornament

Police and fire ornaments are available for purchase.

If you are looking to help a good cause you can help area law enforcement families make it through the holiday season. (For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) Ornaments for Officers, a local fundraiser is selling new and gently used ornaments, and the proceeds go soley to Backstoppers, which helps the families of police and firefighters who are killed or injured in the line of duty. The goal is to raise $60,000, according to the charity's local website. Ornaments donated to Ornaments for Officers will be displayed at a number of participating retailers, more than 300, until Christmas. The ornaments cost $9 each and come with a list of money-saving coupons.   Backstoppers will use the proceeds to help support the …

Several new businesses are now open throughout Manchester and Town and Country.

Signs of economic recovery are cropping up all over the West County area as new businesses open their doors and vacant buildings find new tenants. Sushi Ai, an all-you-can-eat sushi bar, will open this fall at 471 Lafayette Center. Franz Kraintz, the director of Planning, Zoning and Economic Development for Manchester said Sushi Ai is in the process of being approved by the city and should receive its permits in July. Sushi Ai is a local restaurant with a location already in Maryland Heights. Massage Luxe will open soon in the Manchester Highlands. Massage Luxe offers massages, facials and waxing services and has eight locations in the St. Louis area. The fast growing franchise was founded by Todd Beckman, a St. Louis businessman who made …
