Manchester Seeking Federal Grant For Henry Avenue Road Improvements

The city is applying for a grant to fund approximately 80 percent of the Henry Avenue road improvement plan estimated to cost $712,500.

The City of Manchester will apply for approximately $570,000 in federal grant money to improve Henry Avenue. Aldermen gave City Engineer Ed Blattner the go-ahead to apply for an East-West Gateway federal grant for the improvement project this week. The cities of Manchester and Ballwin are both working to make improvements to the road, including stormwater, street overlay and adding ADA compliant sidewalks. However, the two cities are now applying for grant money separately, Blattner tells Patch. New Neighborhood, Henry Avenue Road Repairs Could be 2013 Reality

The Manchester Board of Aldermen voted to work with Ballwin on Henry Avenue repairs, plus a new subdivision is moving forward near Parkway South High School.

Henry Avenue  At at recent Manchester Board of Aldermen meeting, aldermen voted 6:0 to move forward with a plan for Henry Avenue road repairs.  (Sign up here for the FREE Patch Newsletter, including Breaking News Alerts.)   As previously reported by Patch, aldermen plan to apply for a federal grant in conjunction with the City of Ballwin for repairs to Henry Avenue. The road runs through both Manchester and Ballwin. The majority of the road runs through Ballwin with an approximate 62/38 percent split, according to Manchester City Engineer Ed Blattner. Parkway's Yellow School Buses Going Green

Parkway is buying 30 news buses as it transitions its fleet to become more invironmentally friendly by using compressed natural gas fuel.

A big yellow school bus is a familiar site, but now Parkway School District buses are going green.   (For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) District officials tell Patch, the district is taking steps to transition its fleet of 150 buses to become more environmentally friendly.  Parkway Spokesperson Cathy Kelly tells Patch, the buses will use a cleaner, healthier compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel.      CNG costs less than diesel fuel, so Kelley said Parkway will save an estimated $100,000 per year in fuel costs as a result. The fuel will also leave a smaller footprint on the environment, according to Kelly. "It will reduce the amount of emissions emitted into the environment," she said. "The St. Louis area has bad …

Road Construction, Federal Funding Possible For Manchester's Henry Avenue

The cities of Manchester and Ballwin could apply for federal funding for improvements to Henry Avenue.

The cities of Manchester and Ballwin may soon work together on a Henry Avenue road construction project. (Follow Patch on Facebook for updates- check out our page and "Like" it here.) Monday, Manchester aldermen discussed applying for a grant, in conjunction with the City of Ballwin, for improvements to Henry Avenue. The approximate 11,300 feet of the road, which is a little over 2 miles, runs between Clayton and Manchester roads. The street runs through both Manchester and Ballwin. However, Manchester City Engineer Ed Blattner said the majority of the road is located in Ballwin with an approximate 62/38 percent split. Federal Grant May Fund Most of Hanna Road Project

Monday night, the Manchester Board of Aldermen voted to apply for a federal grant that could cover 80 percent of the estimated $3.6 million road improvement project.

Engineer Brian Kulick of Juneau Engineers, the company hired by the City of Manchester to prepare paperwork to acquire funding for the Hanna Road Project, received approval Monday night to apply for federal grant money by aldermen. Kulick told the board of alderman the East-West Gateway Council is soliciting grant applications for surface transportation projects. Kulick said the city's Hanna Road improvement project would meet the initial criteria for funding. The Hanna Road project would include 1.8 miles from Manchester Road to Big Bend Road.   Kulick said the three main safety updates to the road would include a norhtbound right turn lane at Manchester Road, the installation of traffic signals at Parkway South High School and installing…

Manchester Still Ponders Great Streets Initiative

Manchester’s Planning and Zoning Committee requested a few "small changes" to the Great Streets Initiative before members will vote to approve it in September.

The Great Streets Initiative—a 30-year master plan to improve the appearance and traffic flow on Manchester Road from Wildwood to Manchester—is making slow progress through Manchester’s city hall. “Planning and zoning hasn’t completely signed off on it yet,” said Ward 2 Alderman Mike Clement, who sits on the planning and zoning committee as a nonvoting member and the board of aldermen’s liaison. He said that the planning and zoning committee approved parts of the plan, but also wanted to see changes made. The committee sent the plan back to Manchester's planning and zoning city staff for corrections and will vote on it at the committee's next meeting, Sept. 12.
