Surprise Slushstorm

The overnight storm of heavy, wet snow caught some commuters by surprise Monday morning, but road crews were out early clearing local streets.

Despite local weather reports, some Town and Country and Manchester residents said they weren't expecting the amount of snow the area received overnight and into Monday. It made for a difficult morning commute. One Manchester resident said it took him 45 minutes to get his kids to their school, which is four miles from their home. Manchester police reported no major accidents due to the winter weather and the Manchester Public Works Department said its had crews out plowing since morning. Crews did not use salt, but by noon had plowed all the snow routes, primary and secondary streets. A city spokesperson said that since the snow was so wet, it cleared off roads easily. Wednesday Snow Update, Drivers Warned Against Travel

The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to discourage travel Wednesday citing dangerous road "treacherous" road conditions.

UPDATED 3:55 p.m. Wednesday- The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to discourage travel Wednesday citing dangerous road "treacherous" road conditions. Troopers said the freezing rain, sleet, heavy snow, wind, and bitterly cold temperatures has made driving treacherous and dangerous and all highways and interstates continue to be snow covered.   The Missouri Department of Transportation reports Interstate 70 from Wentzville to Kansas City re-opened Wednesday morning, but said most area  interstates are still snow and ice covered. Interstate 44 West remains closed Wednesday afternoon, but I-44 has opened from Springfield, MO., to Exit 11 in Joplin. Drivers Told to Get Off the Roads by Noon Amid Blizzard Warning

MoDOT warns drivers to get what they need and where they need to be by noon because conditions will deteriorate from there.

Missouri Department of Transportation officials are urging residents to get wherever they need to be to wait out the coming storm by noon. After that, they say, roads will only get worse.  “Sleet, significant snow accumulation, strong wind gusts and snow drifts will create hazardous driving conditions from noon today through midnight. Motorists who do not plan for these conditions could be stranded when conditions deteriorate,” said Ed Hassinger, district engineer for MoDOT said in a release Tuesday. The National Weather Service is predicting 12 to 24 inches of snow to blanket the St. Louis metropolitan area, including  Town and Country and Manchester. (Click here for your local weather report.) The National Weather Service is reporting a "crippling" winter storm expected into Wednesday with one to two feet of snow expected, so Ameren and local leaders are  sharing info and phone numbers residents need to know as snow, ice and possible power outages head our way. Emergency officials have planned for freezing rain and ice, topped by about a foot of snow as the perfect winter storm bears down on the St. Louis area from the west. Parkway School Closed Thursday and Friday While Crews Continue Clearing Roads

The Parkway School District cancelled classes Thursday and Friday, police report slick roads and street crews are plowing as the National Weather Service reports 6 to 12 inches of snow across the area.

School Closed, but Police Say Streets Are OK

A breakdown of Manchester and Town and Country snow removal procedures as kids get a day off school and police report no major accidents.

The National Weather Service estimates Town and Country and Manchester received approximately 3 inches of snow overnight and into the morning and there is a chance of snow showers through Tuesday. Temperatures will stay around 21 degrees with wind gusts around 21 mph. Parents and students are advised to call their school's activity line for details on after-school activities or athletic events scheduled for Tuesday evening.
