Cooper’s Hawk Winery and Restaurant is set to move into Town and Country Crossing by the end of 2013 or beginning of 2014. (For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) Town and Country Planning Director Sharon Rothmel tells Patch, the restaurant will move into the space at 1000-1272 Town and Country Crossing Drive, near Clayton Road and Highway 141. Rothmel points out she had not even received plans for the restaurant yet and said this project is in its initial stages. Cheers! Try These Wines for the Holidays

When shopping for wine, visit a local wine shop where experts are on hand to help you select the perfect vintage.

(For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) Patch asked three local wine experts what they would recommend for holiday gift giving and was suprised to get the same answer. “What do they like to drink?” In the world of wine, there’s no one perfect bottle. The best gift wine is given with ample thought towards the recipient. Do they like sweet dessert wines or a bold Cabernet Sauvignon? Would they like a bottle from a far away land, or one from their favorite local Missouri winery? When pushed, wine experts will reluctantly give a few recommendations. But they’d much rather talk with you in person where they can show you around the shop and point out popular or underappreciated wines. Straub’s (Town and Country, Clayton…

Gift and a Movie for Valentine’s Day

This Valentine’s Day try pairing your sweetie’s favorite flick with a thoughtful gift.

We all know that dinner and movie go hand in hand, but with Valentine’s falling on a weekday, maybe you’d rather stay in this time. Here’s a list of DVDs and possible gift ideas that go with them. You can pick up these movies at Best Buy, Target or Walmart.  Sabrina: There are two versions of this film, with two of the best leading men ever: Humphrey Bogart or Harrison Ford. Purists will want the 1954 black and white with Audrey Hepburn, while die-hard Ford fans may like the 1995 version better. Either way, pair this movie with a nice bottle of champagne and glass flutes—just don’t put them in your pockets. The Notebook: A classic romantic tale of true love and Alzheimer’s will have your Valentine in tears. Pair it with a journal to keep …

A Guide to the Wine Trail of Ste. Genevieve

The “Route du Vin” travels through rolling farmland and six (or seven) Missouri wineries in Ste. Genevieve County.

Missouri is home to several wine regions, where stands of grapes sprout up between hay fields and cow pastures. Ste. Genevieve County is one of these regions, home to several family wineries on the “Route du Vin.” The Route du Vin, named for the region's French heritage, starts in the town of Ste. Genevieve and stretches west all the way to Farmington. Ste. Genevieve is about 50 miles south of Arnold down Hwy. 55. You can pick out a few wineries to visit or make a weekend of it. There are few precautions to take when planning a drive on the Route du Vin. Most of the wineries are connected by long stretches of twisty two-lane country roads, so if you plan to pop the cork on any of your purchases get a designated driver. Second, print out a …

The Business Break-Down

Manchester Gas Station Offers Wine, Beer Tastings

A convenience store takes a unique approach to boost sales and alert customers to a beer and wine selection somewhat unique to a gas station.

High gas prices do not translate into huge profits for gas station owners. In fact, according to the National Association of Convenience Stores the sale of gas accounts for only 26 percent of a convenience store’s pretax profits. This means the other 74 percent of their profits must come from the little extras that they sell inside the store—an area many drivers ignore in this age of pay-at-the-pump. So how do convenience stores lure drivers inside to buy that extra slushy and candy bar? Marketing, of course. A recently opened Energy Express Conoco station at 13970 Manchester Road has been designed specifically for the high expectations of the West County driver. Store management describes the store as clean, airy and having the same décor…

Pedal & Wine: Katy Trail in St. Charles County

Take your bike to the Katy Trail for a journey through Missouri wine country.

Katy Trail State Park is a bike-and-hike trail that runs more than 230 miles from St. Charles west to Clinton, MO and covers almost the whole width of Missouri. You don’t have to be a long distance cyclist to enjoy the trail, because the 27-mile stretch between St. Charles and Augusta have multiple trail heads, making it incredibly accessible to short distance users. This section of the Katy also runs through Missouri wine country with seven wineries (and two breweries) located close to the trail. A few more wineries are along Hwy. 94, the road that parallels the Katy. The hard-packed gravel trail was converted from an abandoned railroad line, so it is natually flat with few curves. The trail winds along the Missiouri River taking visitors…
