Fire Crews Go Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Monarch Fire Protection District and West County EMS and Fire Protection District will don pink T-shirts throughout October.

The tough crews at Monarch Fire Protection District and West County EMS and Fire Protection District are showing their sensitive side this month by wearing pink T-shirts in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  The two agencies join many others across the country in replacing their normal uniform with the brightly colored T-shirts throughout October. The effort is aimed at raising awareness and money to fund cancer reasearch. The shirts have become somewhat of a tradition for Monarch firefighters, who have been donning the shirts for the last several years. Chief Tom Vineyard said new shirts are designed each year.  "We just do it to show our suppport," he said. "There are various members of our department who have been affected." …

Downed Wire Sparks Fire, Stops Traffic on I-270

Fire crews responded to the scene after a power line snapped and landed on Interstate 270 Saturday night.

West County EMS and Fire Protection District fire crews were one of he departments that responded to the scene around 8:15 p.m. Saturday. Tim Dorsey confirms to Patch that traffic was stopped in both directions of the Interstate 270 near the Clayon Road overpass in Town and Country after a power line snapped and landed on the interstate. Dorsey stated that fires were sparked on both sides of the highway due to the incident. Ameren crews responded and removed the wire from the road.
