City officials paid their respects to veterans this morning at the new Manchester Veterans Memorial in Margaret Stoecker Park
Approximately 100 residents attended today's ceremony at the Manchester Veterans Memorial to honor those who fought in the military forces of America. Franz Kraintz, director of planning and zoning for the city of Manchester, officiated the short ceremony, which counted with veterans from all walks of life, ranks and branches of the military. After the playing of the national anthem and the pledge of allegiance, Kraintz led the attendees in a minute of silence at 11 a.m. Kraintz said that this moment was significant because it was a very rare event for the date, time and year to have the same numbers, 11/11/11. A ceremony is scheduled at the city's new Veterans Memorial at Margaret Stoecker Park off Henry Avenue. It begins at 11 a.m. Friday. Manchester's Director of Economic Development Franz Kraintz tells Town and Country-Manchester Patch the public is invited to the free event. Kraintz said it will be about 30 minutes and a "solemn moment of remembrance and reverence for the sacrifices made by all veterans" will take place at 11:11 a.m. Kraintz plans to recognize the time of 11:11 a.m. on Nov. 11, 2011. "This is a once in a century happening, when all the times and dates line up," Kraintz told Patch.
