Microsoft Store Making a Permanent Home in St. Louis

The temporary location in the St. Louis Galleria has been selected to become a full line store.

Did you do any Christmas shopping at the "temporary" official Microsoft Store in the St. Louis Galleria Mall? Originally opened just for the holidays, the St. Louis Business Journal is reporting that the store will become a permanent fixture.  (For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) According to the Business Journal, the location is as one of six nationwide chosen by Microsoft to become a full line retail store. The decision was based on the "great success" of the temporary spot.  The software giant's rival, Apple, has an official store in the mall as well.  Related stories:

Most Retailers Not Offering Holiday Season Jobs

Most retailers surveyed said they planned to offer more overtime instead of hiring additional workers this holiday season.

Things are looking up for retailers as solid sales in recent months could mean that shoppers are ready to spend more this holiday season, according to an L.A. Times business report. Despite the expected sales growth, 67 percent of retailers surveyed by the Hay Group planned to keep their seasonal hiring at the same levels as last year, and 24 percent plan to hire even fewer workers. Designer Shoe Warehouse is located just off Manchester Road. The company reported exceptional sales growth this year, but is one of the retailers that plans to offer more hours to its normal sales staff rather than hire additional workers, the Wall Street Journal stated. Best Buy, incuding the store in the Manchester Highlands Shopping Center, is another …

Car Crashes Into Manchester Ulta Store

Manchester police say a driver lost control of her car and drove into the Manchester Ulta store Tuesday night.

The Ulta store in Manchester is open for business Wednesday, after a car came crashing throught its front window Tuesday night. Manchester police say a driver lost control of her car and drove into the Manchester Ulta store around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night. Sgt. Buck Lancey tells Town and Country - Manchester Patch that a woman was driving in the parking lot when she hit the accelerator instead of the brake, struck a pick-up truck and then drove into the store. Halloween Stores Pop Up This Time of Year

September marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season with the arrival of temporary Halloween stores, but temporary locations may begin to get more pricey.

Pop-up retail stores are nothing new. Shoppers are no longer suprised to see vacant retail spaces fill up during the holiday season with specialty stores, such as the Halloween Express now open in a former Kincaid Home Furnishing Store on Manchester across the street from Manchester Highlands. It takes a lot of planning to make a store as large as Halloween Express magically appear for the frightfully short Halloween shopping season. According to a store employee, the store’s locations are scouted out at the beginning of summer, and employees set up merchandise in August. “We start ordering for Halloween after last Halloween,” one employee said. Halloween Express plans to stay open for a few days after Oct. 31, depending on how much …

The Business Break-Down

Missoni Madness Lures Out Shoppers

Shoppers flooded Target stores nationwide seeking bargain priced designer goods from Missoni, an Italian designer.

The demand for merchandise labeled “Missoni for Target” has been surprising, to say the least. Last Tuesday marked the first—and possibly last—day of Target's limited offering of budget-priced Missoni goods. The design house created pieces especially for Target and were sold at prices Target shoppers would expect. For example, a Missoni for Target infinity scarf sold for $25, while the same type of scarf at Neiman Marcus costs $200. Are they the same product? Of course not. The Target scarf is 100 percent rayon and half the length of the “real” Missoni scarf which is a blend of acrylic, polyamide, mohair and polyester. The scarf is nowhere to be seen in St. Louis stores and is sold out online. Yet eBay has more than 30,000 listings for “…
