Learn the basic recipe for vinaigrette to make your own variation and find out which refreshing vegetables are making an appearance at your local markets.
We are in the throws of spring. With buds bursting, vegetables are waiting for that warm breeze and drowning spring shower to allow them to blossom and provide fruit. Walking through Whole Foods Market and Schnucks in Town and Country and Walmart, Dierbergs and Schnucks in Manchester, the vegetable bins are brimming with artichokes, asparagus, broccoli, varieties of lettuces, snow peas, sweet onions, mangoes, oranges, lemons, limes, strawberries and much more. This is the time to let our stoves cool, shed the blanket of warm winter stews and begin to enjoy the gifts of spring. This time of year evokes a yearning for salad, renewal and freshness. A shoe store has both feet planted in the running community.
If spring fever is making you wish you were running a trail through Queeny Park instead of stuck behind a desk, you might want to point your feet toward Big River Running Company. Here you can pick up a pair of new shoes or grab an entry form for a 5K run--conveniently nestled between the socks and running gloves. Big River Running in Manchester is a locally owned specialty store that caters to the needs of running enthusiasts. It’s the brainchild of Matt Helbig and Ben Rosario, a couple of friends who love running and wanted to build up the running community in St. Louis. Rosario started running in high school and turned pro after college. He decided to invest his prize money into starting the Big River Running Company and got Helbig, a …

The overnight storm of heavy, wet snow caught some commuters by surprise Monday morning, but road crews were out early clearing local streets.
Despite local weather reports, some Town and Country and Manchester residents said they weren't expecting the amount of snow the area received overnight and into Monday. It made for a difficult morning commute. One Manchester resident said it took him 45 minutes to get his kids to their school, which is four miles from their home. Manchester police reported no major accidents due to the winter weather and the Manchester Public Works Department said its had crews out plowing since morning. Crews did not use salt, but by noon had plowed all the snow routes, primary and secondary streets. A city spokesperson said that since the snow was so wet, it cleared off roads easily. Town and Country police said the calls have slowed down as of Monday …
