Additional lighting will be set up on The Principia soccer field this summer. It's expected to benefit the school's athletics program, but not intrude on residents.
Town and Country aldermen recently approved allowing additional lighting to be set up on the soccer fields at The Principia. (For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) School officials explained that the lighting will allow the school to host tournaments and improve the quality of practice time, including allowing student athletes to practice at night when summer heat warnings are issued during the daylight hours. The lights will also allow night games which will school staff said will improve fan attendance because games will be held when more people can attend. The new lights will sit on 50-foot stands and there will be visors around the edges of the actual lights to prevent them from shining away from the field. …

The turf on the West Ladue Campus used to be the Wildcats home base.
For Westminster soccer, the game against Ladue Friday was like a homecoming. Only the homecoming was on the road. Westminster returned to play Ladue at the new West Campus facility. Up until a year ago, that was the home to Westminster Christian Academy. The Wildcats used the return occasion to put a 2-0 shutout on the high-flying Rams. A scoreless first half, played in cold, blustery bone-chilling 40 degrees turned into a second-half scoring bonanza for Westminster. Courtney McGhee scored the go-ahead and game winning goal with an assist from Caroline Moore. Also in the second half, a header by Charisse Williams, off a corner kick from Moore was a thing of beauty. She stepped in on goal keeper Fran Shannon to score and pretty much put the…

John Mohrmann will be honored this weekend for a decision in a game against Westminster Christian Academy last season which could have cost his team a shot at a state title.
(For instant updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) The St. Louis Priory varsity soccer program achieved perfection in the 2011, going 27-0 en route to a state title. But that's not why the team's coach will be honored Saturday night by the St. Louis Sports Commission's National Sportsmanship Awards. Instead it will be because of a decision John Mohrmann made that could have ended his team's season in district play against Westminster Christian Academy. The story was first reported by West Newsmagazine Here's how it was described by the St. Louis Sports Commission: (You can also watch video of the play in question here) Last November, soccer rivals Saint Louis Priory School and Westminster Christian Academy were locked in a battle …

Cadets avenge loss in 2011 District Final to knock off the defending state champion Spartans.
In a matchup of two well-known traditional St. Louis soccer powers that felt a little strange to see any earlier than in a district final, CBC bested De Smet 2-0 in a first round/semifinal match Tuesday at W. Michael Ross Stadium in Town and Country. (For instant updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) It was physical on the pitch early and often as the two Metro Catholic Conference rivals went at it with the most on the line since De Smet's (12-9-4) win in the district championship in 2011 propelled the Spartans to a state title. But Tuesday, CBC (19-5-1) Sophomore Devon Boyce and Senior Forward LJ Adewumni found themselves in the thick of the Cadets' chances, and they capitalized. Boyce found the back of the net with just under 10…

Longhorns score three times in second half Tuesday night for 3-0 shutout win over visiting Patriots.
PARKWAY WEST HIGH SCHOOL — After starting the 2011 season with a mediocre August and September, the Parkway West boys soccer team seems to have found its footing in October. The Longhorns won four of six matches to start the new month, and were in position to get back to the .500 mark if they could pull out a win Tuesday night at Longhorn Stadium against district rival Parkway South. And thanks to a big second half, which included goals by Gavyn Prsha, John Umstead, and Kevin Doherty, the Longhorns have won five of their last seven, and are now 12-12 on the season, behind a 3-0 win Tuesday night over the visiting Patriots. “It was a good win, no doubt,” West head coach Michael Skordos said. “We made some adjustments at halftime, and really…

Parkway South softball was the team with the perfect record this season until it met up with the Tigers.
Turnabout was fair play for the Oakville softball team last week. The Tigers suffered only one loss in their state championship season in 2010. That was a regular season loss to Parkway South that was avenged in the playoffs. Parkway South was the team with the perfect record this season until it met up with the Tigers. The Patriots were coming off an exciting 2-1 victory over Eureka the day before, but it was all Oakville and freshman pitcher Jordan Michalski last Tuesday. Michalski gave up just three hits in going the distance in Oakville's convincing 6-0 victory. Savannah Fedorchak has been clutch at the plate all fall for the Tigers, and she was once again against South as she had a pair of doubles and three RBIs. Oakville and Parkway …

Chaminade withstood a barrage of CBC offensive pressure midway through the first half and made the most of counterattack opportunities to improve to 5-2 on the season with win over CBC.
A weekend contest between two of the area's top soccer programs on Saturday saw the Chaminade Red Devils capitalize on a counterattack opportunity in the first half, and then ice the match with a second goal late in the game to claim victory over Metro Catholic Conference rival CBC. Chaminade held the Cadets scoreless in the 2-0 victory behind firm goalkeeping by junior Tyler Eades. The Red Devils' first half goal came courtesy of Tommy Barlow, a sophomore striker who had numerous strong runs through the Cadet defense during the game. Jordan Bay tallied the second goal on a scurry in front of the CBC net with 13 minutes to play. "We played really well in the back...any time you can shut CBC out you've probable done something right in the …
