Snow: Yes, They Really Mean It; Up to 11 Inches

We've been hoping forecasters would back off that prediction for a large spring snowfall, but they haven't.

Our hopes for a change of heart among weather forecasters have been dashed. The National Weather Service and local meteorologists are still calling for a massive winter storm to sweep over the St. Louis metro area overnight tonight. Glenn Zimmerman, meteorologist for Patch news partner FOX2, says rain should start tonight in the area at about 9 or 10 p.m., changing into snow sometime Sunday morning. He said the heaviest bursts of snowfall may be from around noon to 2 p.m. That forecast differs only slight from the storm alert from the National Weather Service: Rain will overspread the area Saturday evening. MoDOT: With Wintry Weather in Forecast, Give Crews Room to Work

The Missouri Department of Transportation reports on the St. Louis area work zones through March 6.

Missouri Department of Transportation officials warn that crews may be out treating roadways and plowing in the coming week. Drivers give the trucks plenty of room to work. Commuters should also be aware of changing roadway conditions, especially in the mornings. They should slow down, and be prepared for possible ice, especially on ramps and bridges. As the weather clears, maintenance workers will be completing needed roadway maintenance, such as pavement repairs and crack sealing. Please watch for slow moving or stopped vehicles with flashing lights in traffic lanes. As weather permits, inspection crews will close one lane in each direction on the Poplar Street Bridge.  Weekdays, crews will close the lane between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. On …

Be Prepared for Thursday's Snow Storm With These Resources and Tips

The St. Louis area is expected to get anywhere from 1-6 inches of snow and freezing rain when a major storm moves through the area Thursday.

With a severe winter storm warning now in effect for all of St. Louis, it's important to be prepared in case of an emergency situation, particularly a loss of power.  Up to 6 inches of snow and freezing rain is expected for the metro area, so here are five resources that can come in handy when the storm hits Thursday morning.  Batteries Plus in St. Louis provided the following recommendations of items for consumers to have on hand in the event of a power outage. MoDOT Warns Use Caution in Evening Rush Hour After Tuesday's Snow

Large snow flakes fell across the St. Louis area Tuesday. MoDOT officials are warning drivers to use caution as they head home Tuesday evening.

The Missouri Department of Transportation said road crews took to the streets around the St. Louis area Tuesday treating roads with salt and chemicals and plowing as needed. MoDOT officials are warning drivers to use caution as they head home Tuesday evening, especially on ramps and bridges.  The National Weather Service reports there could be accumulation of up to one inch of snow in some parts of the St. Louis area Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of around 20 degrees and light wind is also in the forecast. According to KMOV.com, several areas received at least a half-inch of accumulation as the narrow band of snow hit St. Louis and St. Charles counties beginning late morning. UPDATED: Christmas Snow Coming To St. Louis

Here are five resources you should keep handy as forecasts of snow for the St. Louis area on Tuesday come in.

The National Weather Service forecast for Christmas Day is one Santa will like: "Snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 25. Blustery, with a north wind 15 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. MoDOT Winter Weather Drill Puts Snow Plows on St. Louis Area Roads Wednesday

MoDOT is alerting drivers not to be alarmed if they see snow plows on the roads Wednesday. Severe weather is not on the way, MoDOT is performing a winter weather drill.

The Missouri Department of Transportation warns drivers they may see snow plows on the roads Wednesday. It's part of a statewide snow drill taking place throughout the day, MoDOT stated in a news release. (For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) MoDOT officials said they began preparing for the area's first winter storm months ago. In rural areas, crews will take to the streets after 8 a.m. and in urban areas, the drill will begin after 9 a.m., according to MoDOT. I certainly hope that MODOT does a better job this year with the snow removal than they have done with cutting the right of way areas that they are responsible for maintaining. Residents of O'fallon, MO are now being told to mow these areas that are on their property...and why? Because MODOT has no concern for maintaining their responsibility in these areas....Shame on MODOT and I question why …   more ›
