St. Louis County Police Take Kids Out to 'Shop With a Cop'

St. Louis County Police officers with the West County precinct took kids shopping this holiday season to help they by gifts for themselves and their families.

St. Louis County Police officers started Saturday, Dec. 16 with a breakfast for the kids at the Elks Lodge in Manchester. The St. Louis County Police Department teamed up with the Elks Lodges from Manchester, Ellisville, and St. Louis to help raise money so children from West County could go shopping with an officer at an area store of their choice on Dec. 16. St. Louis County Police West County Precinct school resource officer's chose 15 kids from the Parkway, Rockwood and Valley Park School districts to participate. Police said the Elks raised $1500 and gave 15 students a $100 gift card each to “Shop With a Cop” for personal Christmas Gifts. Manchester's Monthly E-Cycling is Enormous Success

RNA Worldwide said Manchester's electronics recycling program continues to grow and donated $500 to the city's Shop with a Cop program.

The City of Manchester began holding monthly electronics recycling events for residents in July. (Read Previous Story: RNA Worldwide Holding Monthly Electronics, Appliance Recycling in Manchester) As previously reported by Patch, RNA Worldwide holds the recycling events from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the lower parking lot of Schroeder Park on the third Saturday of every month.  Prior to July, RNA and the City of Manchester only held two e-cycling events, but the company told city leaders earlier this year that there is a high enough demand for additional collections.  That theory proved to be true. Kids 'Shop With a Cop' at Manchester Walmart

The Manchester Police Department takes local kids shopping for their families' holiday gifts Saturday.

Saturday, the Manchester Police Department is taking part in its annual Shop with a Cop event where officers and community volunteers take kids to the Manchester Walmart Supercenter to buy gifts for the childrens' families. It's a program that many police departments do around the country and Manchester Police Sgt. Sheree Waterhouse started in Manchester nine years ago. "Ten years ago I knew I wanted to do something to have a positive impact and interaction with kids and help families who needed help," Sgt. Waterhouse explained.
