Two Parkway South students were recently recognized by the City of Manchester for receiving perfect ACT scores.
At a recent Manchester Board of Aldermen meeting, Parkway South seniors Leela Chapman and Bradley Gleason were both recognized for receiving perfect ACT scores. According to the Parkway School District, 36 is the highest possible score on the ACT college admissions and placement exam. "Nationally, while the actual number of students earning a composite score of 36 varies from year to year, less than one-tenth of 1 percent of students who take the ACT earn a top score of 36. Parkway students scored above the state and national averages on ACT results, according to the Parkway School District.
The Parkway School District made the announcement in a news release this week. The ACT is a national college admissions examination consisting of subject area tests in english, math, science and reading. The test is designed to assess a high school students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work, Parkway explaind in the release. The testing data released this month shows the ACT composite score for Parkway is 23.3, up from 22.9 in 2011. Parkway schools alert parents the test is mid-September.
The Parkway School District is alerting parents with high school sophomores that mid-September brings a test called PLAN that may indicate whether a student is a good candidate for Advanced Placement courses. PLAN results may also indicate whether a student could benefit from another course that would prepare them for Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate program, dual enrollment and other potentially rigorous courses of study. The PLAN test is part of the familiar ACT and SAT battery pre-college tests. It tests four areas: English, Math, Reading, and Science. It should measure course curriculum-related knowledge.
