Patch Announces St. Louis Readers' Choice 2012 Winners

Patch readers all over St. Louis voted for everything from favorite beauty salon to best beer garden to restaurant with the friendliest staff. Now, we have the results of Readers' Choice 2012.

No doubt they're tough questions. Settling upon St. Louis' best thin-crust pizza is like naming your favorite child. The best coffee house? Where do you start? Pulled pork sandwich? How about all of them? But readers could only choose one. And they chose wisely.  Patch on Wednesday announced the winners of its Readers' Choice 2012 competition. Readers helped nominate local businesses and organizations for select categories then voted on them over a five-week period. When all was said and done, Imo's Pizza, the chain that has more than 100 locations in the St. Louis-area, was deemed best St. Louis-style pizza. The provel-loving restaurant beat out the likes of some of the best pizza parlors in town, such as Pi Pizzeria, Dewey's Pizza, …

Provel Cheese: Let's Decide. Yummy or Yucky?

This week's conversation starter was inspired by one of our Readers' Choice categories.

I spend a lot of time all over the St. Louis area. I love Old Town St. Charles, I go to the zoo, the garden, Washington Avenue. I'll stand behind no one in my zeal for the St. Louis Cardinals. But still, I get accused of being a St. Louis hater for one reason. I can't abide Provel cheese. Sorry. I'm just not a fan. And for that reason, I'm not qualified to nominate any pizza restaurants in our Readers' Choice campaign, under way right now. One of the categories is "Favorite St. Louis-style Pizza," and I don't have any favorites (but you can nominate a place by clicking on that link). This Readers' Choice campaign got me wondering what we see in Provel cheese. Or, hearing from others who love St. Louis, but not so much the Provel — a unique…

Readers' Choice 2012: Where’s the Best Sushi in the Area?

It’s not just raw fish and rice. And we need you, our readers, to tell us who is the best at making this traditional Japanese dish in the St. Louis metro area.

Type “Sushi restaurants in St. Louis” on Google Maps and you will get more than 400 results. This Japanese delicacy traces its roots to the Fourth Century B.C. in Southeast Asia, when fish was stored with rice for preservation purposes, according to Sushi-Master.com, a website that specializes in Sushi. Centuries later, many sushi eateries have made their way across the United States and St. Louis. Although price varies from restaurant to restaurant, sushi is considered by many as a fine dish, sometimes associated with business meetings or such other occasions. At Patch, however, we are not interested in fancy reviews. We want our readers’ opinions, which we value more than anything. So tell us, in our comments section, where is your …
