Despite some residents' concerns, plans for a new private school, the Raintree Learning Community, were approved by the Town and Country Planning and Zoning Commission Wednesday night.
Town and Country's Planning and Zoning Commission approved the preliminary development plan for a new Raintree Learning Community to be built at 2000 to 2016 Amonte Drive just off Mason Road. With Westminster Christian Academy's new school year set to start in Town and Country this August, the schools' football team recently saw its new field for the first time.
Westminster Christian Academy is set to move from Creve Coeur to its new campus in Town and Country for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year. The Westminster Wildcat football team will start the 2011 season at a new school, with a new coach, new athletic director and new state-of-the-art facilities, including a 2,000-seat football stadium. Westminster Spokesperson Michelle Burke said the Westminster football team has never had a home stadium. In fact, school officials said last year all games but one were away due to Ladue School District construction on the campus. After leading the Westminster Christian Academy football team for eight years, JD Perona is stepping down as head football coach. Upper School registrar and physics teacher Cory Snyder will replace him.
After leading the Westminster Christian Academy football team for eight years, JD Perona is stepping down as head football coach. The school is currently located in Creve Coeur but is moving to its new Town and Country campus this summer, where students will begin the 2011-2012 school year. In a press release, school officials said, "Under Perona's leadership the program has grown and won district championships in 2006 and 2009. Perona has been a strong coach and mentor and has always placed a high priority on spiritually leading the boys that God has entrusted to us." Kennedy Catholic High School senior Paige Miller signed a letter of intent with Youngstown State University in Ohio on Friday. School officials said Miller has been an integral member of Kennedy’s softball program throughout the past four years. She led Kennedy to its first two softball district championships in 2009 and 2010, as well as two consecutive seasons with a record of 44-6, Courtney Bolesta, Kennedy's director of communication and alumni relations, said in a news release. Creve Coeur's Westminster Christian Academy is building a new campus in Town and Country at Highway 40 and Maryville Centre Drive. The new facility will double the academy’s educational space and will allow it to expand enrollment once again.
