Manchester Aldermen Vote on Lawsuit Settlement, Penske and City Pool

Due to the Presidents Day holiday, this week's Manchester Board of Aldermen meeting is Tuesday, Feb.21. Pool Surveillance Cameras, Sidewalk Repairs in Manchester

Surveillance cameras are coming to the Manchester Aquatic Center, while the city is moving ahead with pool repairs and construction along Meramec Station Road.

AQUATIC CENTER CAMERAS Surveillance cameras are coming to the Manchester Aquatic Center pool.  Monday night the Manchester Board of Aldermen unanimously passed a resolution for the city to purchase, install and setup a surveillance system in the Manchester Aquatic Center in an amount not to exceed $13,894. Twenty-five thousand dollars was previously approved in the 2011 fiscal year budget for the purchase of a video surveillance system for the pool. The cameras were previously discussed by the board, but Manchester Police Detective Ed Skaggs reiterated the need for the cameras immediately. He explained that there have been wallets, purses, credit cards and cash stolen from guests' unattended bags at the pool. He estimated 10 to 12 …

Police Overtime, Pool Surveillance Cameras Top Manchester Aldermen Meeting

Emergency legislation may be enacted Monday to allocate thousands to Manchester police for overtime. Meanwhile, theft and vandalism could have new surveillance cameras coming to Manchester’s Aquatic Center.

At Monday night’s meeting, the Manchester Board of Aldermen will discuss transferring $17,000 from the city's general fund to the Manchester Police Department for payment of overtime within the department. Although this is the first time the board will discuss this issue, emergency legislation has been requested on this legislation so it could be voted on Monday night. Currently the city has at least one lawsuit filed against it from a former police clerk regarding overtime pay from the Manchester Police Department. Board members are also set to discuss the purchase, installation and setup of surveillance systems for the Manchester Aquatic Center in an amount not to exceed $13,894.  The board of aldermen has already approved funds from the…

Billboard Warning, Pool Problems for Manchester

The Manchester Board of Alderman heard a billboard warning and addressed new pool repair problems Monday night.

BILLBOARDS Manchester has a city ordinance completely prohibiting billboards, but State Rep. Sue Allen, R-Town and Country addressed the Manchester Board of Aldermen Monday night to suggest the board might want to reconsider. Allen said she is concerned that a city such as Manchester that completely prohibits the billboards may be setting itself up for challenges of freedom of speech and property rights. The issue stems from House Bill 430 which lumps a number of transportation bills together. Allen said House Bill 430 would also eliminate complete prohibition of billboards within municipalities and not allow them to prevent customary usage. House Bill 430 was passed by the Missouri House and Senate in May, but then vetoed by Governor Jay …

Taxes Vote Set For Monday in Manchester

Manchester property tax and utility tax rates are set to be voted on at Monday's Manchester Board of Aldermen meeting. Check out the full agenda here.

The Manchester Board of Aldermen is set to vote on the city's property and utility tax rate Monday night. (Read Previous Story: Property, Utility Taxes Look to Remain The Same in Manchester) It appears both property and utility tax rates for 2011 will likely remain the same as 2010. The city of Manchester is proposing the following tax rates: The board of aldermen is also set to vote on reaffirming the city's utility tax rate Monday. The ordinance is to simply reaffirm the city's current utility tax rate which was decreased from five percent to four percent in August 2007, according to City Clerk Ruth Baker. The utility tax applies to services such as natural gas, telecommunications, electricity and water in the city of Manchester. …

It's a Doggone Great Day For Swimming In Manchester

The pool at the Manchester Aquatic Center was packed full of pups Sunday as part of the annual end-of-the-swim season.

The pool at the Manchester Aquatic Center was packed full of pups Sunday as part of the annual end of the swim season. Event chair, 15-year-old Mikaela Fox of Valley Park, told Town and Country-Manchester Patch the Doggie Paddle takes place every year during the Manchester Homecoming Festival. This is Fox's second year acting as the event chair, and she's helped out with it for about three years.  "It's just fun to see the dogs run around and swim, and they have a lot of fun," Fox said. "Last year, we had a dog who had an inner tube and he would carry it arund with him in the pool." Fox said for the last few years, Petco and Natural Balance have donated food and dog toys such as frisbees and balls, and Fox and others have made doggie goody…

Bids Accepted, Manchester Pool Repair to Begin

After months of discussions, the Manchester Board of Aldermen accepted contract bids to repair the leaking pipe system in the Manchester Aquatic Center pool.

After months of discussions, the Manchester Board of Aldermen accepted contract bids to repair the leaking pipe system in the Manchester Aquatic Center pool. Alderman Mike Clement tells Patch the construction contract was signed Wednesday morning. Actual work should start mid-September and the contractor, Kadean Construction, has 120 days to complete the project once project has started, Clement said.
