The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Monday that it has blocked food distribution from the Sunland Inc. peanut butter plant in New Mexico whose products were subject to a wide recall in recent months because of salmonella contamination. The peanut butter may be contaminated with Salmonella.
Ohio-based J.M. Smucker Co. is voluntarily recalling 16-ounce jars of Smucker’s Natural Peanut Butter Chunky, according to the Food and Drug Adminstration. The recall is to due to possible salmonella contamination. The recalled peanut butter was distributed in many states, including Missouri. The jars in question would have been purchased between Nov. 8 and 17 and have a "best if used by" date of Aug. 3, 2012 and Aug. 4, 2012. They also contain the production codes 1307004 and 1308004. In the St. Louis area, Dierbergs Spokesperson Todd Vasel tells Patch all of the Dierbergs were alerted to the recall and have checked for the recalled peanut butter.
