ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI) – Two Parkway students face suspension after they were caught with pot-laced brownies at school. Police say these Parkway West High School students made the brownies and planned to pass them out on school grounds. However, Chesterfield police say one of their classmates tipped off administrators, who quickly called in law enforcement. Most pot brownies look exactly like ordinary brownies, which could be why the teens thought they’d be safe to bring to school. Visitation Academy and Parkway West High School were named as having some of St. Louis' favorites in a recent St. Louis Magazine poll.

The poll recently published in St. Louis Magazine, asked St. Louisans to name their favorites in a number of school related categories. Town and Country's Visitation Academy and Parkway West High School were named as having some of St. Louis' favorites in the "Where Did You Go to High School?" poll. Parkway West High School won "Best School Colors," while Annie Menees with Visitation Academy was named "Best Coach." (Click here to read the St. Louis Magazine article.) Parkway West High School students collected over $9,000 for both the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Friends of Kids with Cancer.
According to the Parkway School District, Parkway West High School students collected over $9,000 in an effort to help fight childhood cancers. In an news release, Parkway stated that the Make-A-Wish Foundation will receive $7096.08 and Friends of Kids with Cancer will receive nearly $2,000. According to the school newspaper, The West Pathfinder, most of the money was raised at the senior vs. junior Powder Puff game, during Homecoming Week. Students presented the organizations with their checks during a school pep rally earlier this month. (Read The West Pathfinder story here.)

A Parkway West staffer with a sharp nose helped discover the drugs.
Two Parkway West students have been referred to a juvenile court after they were caught with marijuana on school property. (For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) Chesterfield Police Officer Michael Ryffel said that on March 11, a school staff member smelled something burning in one of the school’s bathroom and “it went from there.” The students, a 16-year-old male and a 15-year-old male, were both sent home. Police said the two teens had a “small amount” of marijuana and the case has been handed over to a juvenile court. Alison Owen has left the intensive care unit of St. Louis Children's Hospital, according to updates provided by her family, and has begun physical therapy.
The Parkway West sophomore who suffered a brain hemorrhage and other injuries during a car accident earlier this month is out of intensive care. Alison Owen remains a patient at St. Louis Children’s Hospital but since moving out of the ICU on Feb. 12, she has been undergoing physical therapy and making good progress, according to Owen’s profile on CaringBridge.com. Owen’s injuries, including broken vertebrae and bruised lungs, were the result of a car accident in Chesterfield Feb. 1. A Parkway West High School sophomore is receiving an outpouring of support from her fellow students following a car accident on Friday that left her with a brain hemorrhage, broken vertebrae and bruised lungs. According to student newspaper The Pathfinder, sophomore Alison Owen suffered the injuries after a vehicle she was in hit two trees Feb. 1. A St. Louis Children's Hopsital official confirmed Owen is a patient at the facility. The incident occurred in Chesterfield near a portion of Country Ridge Drive between Parasol Drive and Silverwood lane, which Chesterfield Police blocked off for much of the morning Feb. 2. The Parkway West High's boys’ varsity soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) High School Team Academic Award.

Parkway West High's boys’ varsity soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) High School Team Academic Award at the 2012 national convention in Indianapolis, Ind. A total of 366 high school teams (143 boys, 223 girls) throughout the United States earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award for exemplary performance in the classroom as a team, during the 2011-12 academic year. To qualify for the award, the high school team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 for the entire school year. The Parkway West boys’ soccer team earned a 3.34 grade point average. Schiff's latest animation for Paranorman, has been nominated for a 2013 Oscar for “best animated feature.”
More than one Parkway West graduate has found success in the world of entertainment in Hollywood. The latest is Brad Schiff. (For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) As an animator, Schiff cut his teeth on a number of popular American television series including MTV’s Celebrity Deathmatch, The PJs and Gary & Mike. Parkway West students, fans and alumni packed the stands for the school's Homecoming football game Sept. 14 against the Parkway Central Colts.
