Parkway South Students Need Your Vote to Win Art Competition

Parkway South High art students made it to the semifinals, now they need your help to win the Vans Custom Art Competition. Vote here!

The following information was provided by the Parkway School District in a news release.  For the second year in a row, the talented students in the Parkway South High art department have made it to the top 50 schools in the country, out of 1,500 entries in the 2013 Vans Custom Culture art competition.  Online voting for the finalists runs through May 13th at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern time).  South High is in the Southeast Region.  (Vote here.) The top five finalists will be flown to New York City for an exclusive final event where the winner will be selected. The grand prize winning school receives a $50,000 prize for their art program and the chance for their shoes to be produced…

Parkway South Holds Naturalization Ceremony Wednesday

Parkway South High School will host a naturalization ceremony Wednesday where approximately 100 immigrants will be sworn in as U.S. citizens.

Parkway South High School will host a naturalization ceremony Wednesday where approximately 100 immigrants will be sworn in as U.S. citizens. The annual ceremony takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday in the school gym. The Honorable Kathy A. Surratt-States, United States Bankruptcy Court Judge, will be presiding, according to a Parkway news release. It also states Parkway’s Superintendent Dr. Keith Marty will be the event's guest speaker. Students will attend the ceremony as part of learning the process of government, according to Parkway staff.

Daniel Hobson, age 14, accomplished something that only 4 percent of all Boy Scouts achieve: His Eagle Scout ranking. He also accomplished this rank four years ahead of the average Eagle Scout.

Arrest After Theft at Parkway South High School

Police were called to investigate two separate incidents of theft from unlocked lockers at Parkway South High School.

The following information was supplied by the Manchester Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction where an arrest was made. No Charges After Loaded Gun Scare Behind Parkway South High School

Police tell Patch they turned their case into prosecutors shortly after the December incident and prosecutors decided no criminal charges would be filed.

Manchester police tell Patch prosecutors decided not to file charges against the 19-year-old Webster Groves man who prompted four Parkway schools to go into "lockout" mode Dec. 17 while police searched nearby woods for the teen who posessed a loaded shotgun. (For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) No one was injured during the incident and the teen finally surrendered peacefully to authorities. Manchester Police Chief Tim Walsh said his investigators presented the case to the St. Louis County Prosecutors office shortly after the incident, which is normal procedure, but prosecutors determined they would not file criminal charges against the teen. Parkway South, Westminster in Lineup for Prepcasts Elite Girls Basketball Shootout Saturday

The teams are participating in the 10-team shootout at De Smet Jesuit High School this weekend.

The Westminster Lady Wildcats and the Parkway South Lady Patriots are both poised to face tough opponents in the Prepcasts Girls Basketball Shootout this Saturday at De Smet Jesuit High School in Creve Coeur  The Shootout, with eight other high school teams spanning Missouri and Illinois, has Westminster Christian Academy facing Republic, both teams that made it to the Class 4 Final Four in state play last year. The Wildcats are off to an 8-2 start to the season. Parkway South, also 8-2 so far, will play Ozark. Fifth-Annual Prepcasts Elite Shootout January 5

The all-day event moves from CBC to DeSmet this year. Parkway South and Westminster are both participating.

The high-flying St. Joe Angels basketball team will highlight the Prepcast Elite V basketball shootout January 5 at DeSmet. Previous shootouts have been held at CBC. This event is hosted by the Prepcasts Broadcast Network. (For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) St. Joe will play Carthage in the 7:15 p.m. contest. Other games feature the defending class 5 state champs from Rock Bridge and Republic, a stronger contender from Southwest Missouri in this year’s event. New Neighborhood, Henry Avenue Road Repairs Could be 2013 Reality

The Manchester Board of Aldermen voted to work with Ballwin on Henry Avenue repairs, plus a new subdivision is moving forward near Parkway South High School.

Henry Avenue  At at recent Manchester Board of Aldermen meeting, aldermen voted 6:0 to move forward with a plan for Henry Avenue road repairs.  (Sign up here for the FREE Patch Newsletter, including Breaking News Alerts.)   As previously reported by Patch, aldermen plan to apply for a federal grant in conjunction with the City of Ballwin for repairs to Henry Avenue. The road runs through both Manchester and Ballwin. The majority of the road runs through Ballwin with an approximate 62/38 percent split, according to Manchester City Engineer Ed Blattner. The two cities will likely apply for an East/West Gateway Grant in February 2013.  Blattner said the grant, if awarded to the cities, would go toward projects, including street overlay, …

Parkway Grad Scott Langley Qualifies for 2013 PGA Tour

Parkway South graduate and West County native Scott Langley qualified for the 2013 PGA Tour.

The Country Club of St. Albans is pleased to announce one if its members has qualified for the 2013 PGA Tour. Scott Langley, shot a four-under-par 68 in the final round of qualifying at TPC Stadium Course in La Quinta, CA this week.  Langley finished 17th, making him one of top 25 finishers in the PGA Tour qualifying tournament, giving him a 2013 PGA Tour Card. “Scott is a tremendous young golfer who will be an exciting addition to the PGA Tour next year,” said The Country Club of St. Albans General Manager David Derfel. “St. Louis has a long history of golfers on the PGA …
