Parkway CFO Raises Possibility of New Bond Issue for 2014
The school district's CFO said it will exhaust its current bond funding this summer and will not have any funds available for additional capital projects.
With the last bit of funds from a 2008 bond issue scheduled to be spent this summer, the Parkway School District's chief financial officer is recommending the school board began talking about placing a new bond on the ballot next fall. CFO Mark Stockwell made the remarks during a presentation to the board at their May 8 meeting. The bond serves as a source of funding for capital expenses, such as maintenance for the district’s facilities. Parkway has about $5.4 million in various projects set for this summer. After that, the bond funds will be gone. Stockwell said this means the district will no longer have money available for additional capital expense or improvements outside of emergency repairs. Parkway Grad, Navy SEAL Eric Greitens Talks Veterans Affairs on Daily Show
Parkway graduate and Navy SEAL Eric Greitens appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart to talk about "The Mission Continues," a program helping military veterans once they return home.
As previously reported by Patch, Navy SEAL Eric Greitens, who served in Iraq, is also a Parkway North graduate with a mission close to his heart. He travels the country working to help veterans who return from service to be able to continue their service once they return home. Earlier this month, Greitens appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart to talk about "The Mission Continues," the program aimed at working with military veterans. Parkway Grad Injured in Boston Marathon Bombings Thankful for Friends, Family
A crowdfunding website has raised nearly $100,000 for Caroline Reinsch and her boyfriend Christian Williams and the couple remains optimistic despite their ordeal.
The crowdsourcing website gathering money for a Parkway Central High School alum injured in the Boston Marathon bombings is now only $3,000 away from its $100,000 goal. Caroline Reinsch graduted from the high school in 1992 and was standing near the finish line with her boyfriend Christian Williams close to where one of the two bombs exploded. The blast “shredded” their legs and caused serious injuries, particularly for Williams, who remains in the hospital, according to a page started for the couple on GoFundMe. The incredible amount of money raised for the couple, $97,148 as of Tuesday morning, is likely in part due to the way they have used the site to share much of their …

Teacher Sexually Touched Home-Schooled Student, Police Say
Police said Joseph T. Maddock taught at several schools in St. Louis County since 2001. He's now being accused of sexually touching a 10-year-old student.
A teacher is being accused of sexually touching a 10-year-old student during a home school session in Lake Saint Louis. Joseph T. Maddock, who also worked for a number of West St. Louis County school districts, was charged Monday in St. Charles County with first-degree statutory sodomy. Lake Saint Louis Police said Maddock, 34, of the first block of Cedar Bluff in Lake Saint Louis, met the boy and his parents while he was teaching at another school. Police reported he convinced the boy’s parents to teach the boy in a home-school environment. Maddock had been teaching at the boy’s Lake Saint Louis home five days a week during the school year. Parkway Students Show a Lot of Merit
27 students, including many from Parkway South, have been named as finalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program

Ten students from South High, nine students from Central High and seven students from West High are among 27 Parkway students that have been named as finalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program. Sequester Could Have Mixed Impact On Parkway, SSD Schools
District administrators, including those in the Special School District and Parkway, are forecasting financial hits on programs from child nutrition to special education.
West St. Louis Country area school districts are crunching the numbers and trying to determine what mandated federal budget cuts would mean if they go into effect starting Friday as part of the so-called "sequestration process." Two Parkway Teens Advance in St. Louis Teen Talent Competition
Which local teens will continue in this year's St. Louis Teen Talent Competition?

Of the seven acts from Parkway South, Parkway Central and Marquette High schools who competed in the preliminary stage on Feb. 9-10, the following two advanced and will compete in the semi-final round competition March 2. During the semi-final round of competition, 10 to 12 acts will be chosen to compete in the finals at The Fox on April 12, which is free admission. Parkway Student Who Suffered Brain Injury On Road to Recovery
Alison Owen has left the intensive care unit of St. Louis Children's Hospital, according to updates provided by her family, and has begun physical therapy.
The Parkway West sophomore who suffered a brain hemorrhage and other injuries during a car accident earlier this month is out of intensive care. Alison Owen remains a patient at St. Louis Children’s Hospital but since moving out of the ICU on Feb. 12, she has been undergoing physical therapy and making good progress, according to Owen’s profile on CaringBridge.com. Parkway Holds Solar Panel Dedication Tuesday
The Parkway School District is holding a solar panel dedication Tuesday at Pierremont Elementary School in Manchester.
The Parkway School District provided the following details of the dedication ceremony in a news release. WHO: The Parkway School District, Brightergy and hundreds of elementary students wearing orange sunglasses. WHAT: The dedication of Parkway's 825-kilowatt solar-energy system, installed as 25-kilowatt systems across 33 buildings throughout the district.
