Meet Manchester's New Police Officer

Officer Tim Darling is Manchester's newest man on the streets.

Manchester Police Chief Timothy Walsh introduced Manchester's newest police officer Tim Darling Monday night. Darling grew up in Ballwin and graduated from Parkway West High School. Darling worked for the Manchester Department of Parks and Recreation and then began attending Ranken Technical College.  He earned an associate degree in automotive maintenance.  Darling worked for Barnes Jewish Hospital as a security guard. In 2010, he enrolled in the St. Louis County Police Academy and graduated in October of that year. Darling is married and lives with his wife Grace in Ballwin.

Meet Manchester's New Police Officer

Officer Andrew Torno is the newest addition to the Manchester Police Department.

Officer Andrew Torno is the newest addition to the Manchester Police Department. Police Chief Tim Walsh said Torno grew up in South County and attended Oakville High School. Torno drove a school bus for the Fox C-6 School District in Jefferson County. He attended St. Louis Community College and University of Missouri St. Louis where he earned an associates degree in criminal justice and a bachelors degree in business administration. Torno also worked as a member of security at St. Louis University and graduated from the St. Louis County Police Academy in Dec., 2010.

Overtime Pay, State Certification For Manchester Police

The Manchester Police Department will seek state certification, received more money for overtime and hired a new officer.

UPDATED: 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5- Overtime At Monday night’s board of aldermen meeting, the Manchester Board of Aldermen approved transferring $17,000 from the city's general fund to the Manchester Police Department for payment of overtime within the department. Although it was the first time the board discussed this issue, emergency legislation was requested and the request was voted on Monday night. Aldermen Paul Hamill tells Patch the $17,000 will actually be reimbursed to the city from various grants. "The bill that was introduced was done so as an opportunity for the City to take advantage of various grants that are currently being offered and to provide additional police services to our residents without a real expenditure of …

Officers say that working the night shift isn’t always as exciting as you might think.

For any Manchester citizen who has recently been out and about in the middle of the night and spotted a police cruiser patrolling the streets, it is likely that either Officer Nicole Priest or Officer Shain Smith of the Manchester Police Department was behind the wheel. The pair are part of the same squad that has been pulling the night shift lately, and neither of them say they can complain.  “It’s just a different environment working at night, different people, dealing with a different clientele,” Smith said. “I like nights, but my body likes days better. It’s hard to sleep all day when there’s always someone cutting their grass.” Priest said that when your job involves a lot of driving, it is nice to work at night when there is no …

Manchester Detective Honing Skills After 14 Years

Craig Smith has been working with Manchester Police Department since he was in high school. He shares what's behind his passion for law enforcement with "Patch."

Manchester Police Detective Craig Smith was heavily influenced by his family to go into law enforcement, though not always in the most positive of ways. Smith says his dad was an alcoholic and his brother a drug addict who was frequently arrested and in jail. “I thought ‘I hate this. I can’t stand this,’” Smith said. “And I wanted to be able to do something, at least my part, to try and help the next guy or the next kid, so they don’t have to live like this.” At the same time, Smith also had a brother-in-law who worked for the Manchester Police Department. Through his brother-in-law, Smith found out how he could in fact do his part and help out that “next kid.” Smith became involved with the St. Louis Police Explorers, an offshoot of the …

Manchester Police Raising Money For Former Detective

The Manchester Police Department is asking the public for help after the untimely death of a detective.

The Manchester Police Department is asking the public to help the family of a detective who died an untimely death, leaving his wife and four children behind. Manchester Police Detective David Wayne Prouty, 37, died on May 24, reportedly of complications from surgery. (Read Previous Story: Manchester Police Lose Detective to Untimely Death) Prouty was a firearms instructor, master taser instructor and a recent member of the Major Case Squad, according to the Manchester Police Department. Now Manchester police are holding a benefit spaghetti dinner from 3:30 to 8 p.m., Friday Aug. 5, at St. Joseph's Church, 567 St. Joseph Ln., in Manchester.
