Peek Inside Scotty's Produce Market in Manchester

The new produce shop opened earlier this month and is still working on features to add to the store.

Fresh, local produce is the name of the game for Scotty's Produce Market in Manchester -- for now. Scotty's opened March 1 at 14444 Manchester Road, and is aiming to add a deli, coffee and tea bar, and flower selection by early April. (For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) The Manchester market is the second location in St. Louis, with Scotty's owner Mark Sgroi expanding the business from Overland. Marshall's Bistro Opens Wednesday in Former Panda Palace Location

Jim and Greg Marshall are opening Wednesday; they say it's one of the ways they're supporting their 81-year-old father who has Alzheimer's.

Marshall's Bistro—a new restaurant featuring comfort food like spaghetti and meatballs, lamb sliders, braised short ribs and bread pudding—opens Wednesday in the location formerly occupied by Panda Palace. The new restaurant features dishes by chef Michael Ryan, executive chef at Lola in St. Louis, with small plates in the $8 to $10 range; entrees from $17 to $22; and pizzas from the Marshall brothers, who used to own Leaning Tower of Pizza at Grand and Bates in St. Louis before it closed years ago. Despite a struggling economy, Town and Country and Manchester saw many new business additions in 20122. Here’s a look at the highlights from the "Patch" Business Breakdown.

The Bar Method was just finding its feet in January 2011. This unique ballet inspired exercise studio in Town and Country Crossings is the first of its kind in St. Louis. The studio is growing and owner Jessica Prasse is opening a second location in Brentwood this spring. In February, Patch checked into CODI the Boutique looking for Valentine bling. The handcrafted jewelry shop is the second location for local designer Courtney Hopson, who moved the store next to Whole Foods in Town and Country Crossing last fall, seeking better foot traffic. March saw the construction of Westminster Christian Academy, a brand new $70 million dollar school for junior and high school students. Signs of economic recovery are cropping up all over the West County area as new businesses open their doors and vacant buildings find new tenants. Sushi Ai, an all-you-can-eat sushi bar, will open this fall at 471 Lafayette Center. Franz Kraintz, the director of Planning, Zoning and Economic Development for Manchester said Sushi Ai is in the process of being approved by the city and should receive its permits in July. Sushi Ai is a local restaurant with a location already in Maryland Heights. Massage Luxe will open soon in the Manchester Highlands. New Manchester Garden Shop is a Family Affair

Joe Summers brings his expertise and family to Chalily Pond and Gardens, a new gardening store in Manchester.

Joe Summers and his wife Tonya always wanted to open a garden shop of their own. Joe, who used to work at the Missouri Botanical Garden, is a professional horticulturist with a passion for water plants. During his time with the botanical garden, he said he cultivated a new lily hybrid, the Victoria Adventure, which you can find floating in the main lily pond in front of the Climatron. More recently, he was the vice president of operations at Anjon Manufacturing, a company that produces water garden supplies, such as pumps and pond kits. Joe said that he cut back to being a consultant for Anjon so he would have time to pursue his latest and most personal venture, Chalily Pond and Gardens.
