Fifteen students to serve in all branches.
Fifteen graduating seniors from three high schools in the Parkway School District were honored Wednesday night at the first meeting of the new board year. Parkway South High School had the most candidates with eight, Parkway Central had five students joining up, and Parkway West High had two students honored. U.S. Marines U.S. Army U.S. Navy U.S. Air Force Coast Guard Academy U.S. Naval Academy Just eight of the seniors were available to attend the recognition ceremony Wednesday. City officials paid their respects to veterans this morning at the new Manchester Veterans Memorial in Margaret Stoecker Park
Approximately 100 residents attended today's ceremony at the Manchester Veterans Memorial to honor those who fought in the military forces of America. Franz Kraintz, director of planning and zoning for the city of Manchester, officiated the short ceremony, which counted with veterans from all walks of life, ranks and branches of the military. After the playing of the national anthem and the pledge of allegiance, Kraintz led the attendees in a minute of silence at 11 a.m. Kraintz said that this moment was significant because it was a very rare event for the date, time and year to have the same numbers, 11/11/11. Paul Wittmer, Manchester resident and WWII Veteran, shares his passion for restoring the records of those lost in submarine battles.
World War II veteran, cancer survivor, author and Manchester resident, Paul Wittmer just released another book on geneology in July. Wittmer has a passion for tracing family history. In the above video, he tells Town and Country-Manchester Patch why he feels it's important to keep alive the memories of those lost during WWII. The 87-year-old WWII submariner shares his motivation in this day-in-the-life photo slideshow. Through his research, Wittmer has compiled records on more than 3,000 men lost in battle. Wittmer published his findings in several books available for purchased on his website. Besides restoring the records of his fellow submarine-men, Wittmer also writes about his adventures during the war. His most recent book, Spyron, …
