Missouri American Water said the two-mile water main replacement project will take place along Manchester Road, between Henry Avenue and Old Ballwin Road.
As previously reported by Patch, there have been numerous recent water main breaks along Manchester Road that have impacted traffic and water service for nearby businesses and residents. (Read Previous Story: Unusual Batch of Water Main Breaks Along Manchester Road Baffle Officials) Missouri American Water previously told Patch the breaks were likely due to the age of the water pipes, some of which are more than 70 years old. Monday, drivers should expect to see crews along Manchester Road, between Henry Avenue and Old Ballwin Road, as a two-mile stretch of water main replacement brings. A new "overlay" governmental district to oversee long-term Manchester Road improvements is a goal for West County cities, but not Manchester. The legal paperwork is set to be done by Town and Country Mayor Jon Dalton, who is an attorney.
With Manchester Road being targeted as part of the St. Louis Great Streets Initiative, this major thoroughfare needs a major transformation that will take years to complete. To be able to work together for an extended period of time, city staffers, council members and board of aldermen of Wildwood, Ellisville and Ballwin municipalities hope to form a "special purpose" taxing district with the sole purpose of executing improvements to the Manchester Road corridor. Wildwood city council members approved a resolution at Monday evening's council meeting to pursue this long-range collaboration with neighboring municipalities. Wildwood City Administrator Dan Dubruiel said Ellisville and Ballwin city officials already had approved their …

The current proposal from water utility experts is to replace the waterline on Manchester Road from Weidman to Mason roads—about 3,300 feet of pipe. When to do it is the question.
Five water main breaks near Manchester Road and Manchester Meadows that occurred between October and Jan. 25 have the full attention of area water and transportation experts. Four of the breaks happened last month: Jan. 4, Jan. 6, Jan. 14 and Jan. 18. "It's very unusual to have this many breaks in one section of pipe," said Ann Dettmer, external affairs manager, Missouri American Water. "We've never seen anything quite like this." The 12-inch diameter pipe in that portion of the Manchester area was installed in 1940, so it is more than 70 years old, she said. In response, Dettmer said Missouri American Water and Missouri Department of Transportation teams recently worked on a plan to replace the waterline along Manchester—more than likely…
