Eight Missouri teams will be in the day-long event at Scottrade Center Thursday.
The Coaches vs Cancer Shootout, a benefit for the St. Louis chapter of the American Cancer Association is a lot more than just a hoop fest. This is basketball for a real cause. While the players get to battle in front of large crowds in a major league arena (Scottrade Center), precious dollars are being raised for the effort to wipe out Cancer in our lifetime. Nothing could be better than that. Matt Hixenbaugh, MICDS’ coach of a team invited back for the third consecutive year puts it this way. “To be involved in this Shootout is a great honor. But the third-seeded hosts from MICDS had different plans, and pulled off one of the great surprises of the season by upsetting Westminster to win their own tournament for the first time. That victory happened to be the Rams' eighth in a row, and helped spark them on to three more, for an 11-game winning streak heading into Friday's rematch with the Wildcats at the WCA Gym. This time though, it was Westminster that made the big plays down the stretch of another tight ballgame, and earned itself a hard-fought 58-56 revenge …

Metro League rivals staged two dynamite ballgames, with the host Wildcats claiming victory in both.
TOWN AND COUNTRY -- If either of the MICDS boys or girls basketball teams thought that their hosts from Westminster Christian Academy were going to be gracious, they found out quickly on Friday that they were sadly mistaken. The host Wildcats were in a foul mood facing the Rams for the second time this season. And both the Westminster boys and girls made sure to show just how discourteous they felt, as both Wildcat squads sent the Rams home with a pair of losses in a critical Metro League doubleheader at the WCA Gym. In the opener, the No. 7-ranked Westminster girls avenged the loss they suffered to the No. 6-ranked Rams in the championship game of the MICDS Holiday Tournament back on December 30, with a 58-56 victory. And in the nightcap…
