Patch takes a look at the latest news and notes from the Suburban West, including the postseason getting under way.
Our weekly look at the latest news and notes from the Suburban West Conference: BASEBALL There was a lot of talk in the preseason among Suburban West Conference baseball coaches on what kind of record it would take to win the league in 2011, especially with the new format which includes back-to-back games against all eight teams in the conference. "I thought maybe a 10-6 record might win it," Lindbergh coach Darin Scott said. Parkway South coach Adam Stahl concurred. "I thought five or six losses might win it," Stahl said. "I never expected it to go the way it did with the caliber of teams in this conference, which I think is the toughest in the entire state of Missouri." Parkway South got off to a great start in the league, and overall, …

Parkway South and Lindbergh are battling for the top spot in the Suburban West baseball race.
Our weekly look at the latest news and notes from the Suburban West Conference: The wacky world of the Suburban West Conference in baseball this spring was shown last week in four games played by Lindbergh. The Flyers seemed to play themselves out of the conference race with losses on Tuesday and Wednesday to Northwest, which entered the series with a 1-8 mark. Ryan Roth had two hits and two runs batted in and pitched two scoreless and hitless innings while striking out four in a 6-3 Lions win on Tuesday. Northwest came from behind the next day, scoring six runs in the final three innings in a 7-5 win. But Lindbergh righted itself on Thursday and Friday with a two-game sweep of Oakville, which had been in second place in the conference. …

The postseason begins in one sport and is on the horizon for other sports as May arrives.
It seems like only yesterday that the high school spring sports season began. But the postseason has begun in one sport and is on the horizon for many other sports. Area golf teams teed it up last week for district tournaments, with the top two teams and top 15 individuals from players outside the top two teams advancing to sectional play. Parkway South won the Class 4 District 2 Tournament which was held at Persimmon Woods Golf Club in Weldon Spring. The Patriots won with a score of 214, which was six strokes better than CBC, which also qualified for sectionals as a team. Parkway South's Kyle Weldon was the individual medalist, shooting a two-over par 73. Parkway South's Jack Darland was tied for second with a 77. Wesley Allard, David …

Kyle Weldon is a high school golfer taking his talent to Kansas State University.
On Nov. 10, senior Kyle Weldon sat in the library at Parkway South High School with his parents, his golf coaches and a representative from Kansas State University awaiting the moment to sign with the Wildcats on a Division I golf scholarship. After an extensive search for the right college, which included Missouri State, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State and Southern Illinois at Edwardsville, Weldon determined Kansas State was the best fit. "When I went on my visit (to Kansas State), I spent a lot of time at their golf course, which is the eighth-ranked golf course in the country. I really liked the golf course and the indoor facility," said Weldon. "Coach Norris, the golf coach at the school, has lots of experience coaching and he …
