Manchester Police Officer Gerad Gonzalez and good samaritan Joe Caruso were honored for heroism and bravery for pulling an unconscious man from a fiery crash.
The two very modest men are almost embarrassed by the attention and gratitude they are receiving since they risked their lives last Tuesday to save the lives of two others involved in a fiery car crash. However, Monday night, once again the spotlight was set on Manchester Police Officer Gerad Gonzalez and Des Peres resident Joe Caruso. Thanks to emails from 'Patch' readers, we gathered details on the heroic efforts of a Manchester police officer and good samaritan who risked their lives to pull a man from a burning car. Watch the dash cam video here.
As previously reported by Town and Country - Manchester Patch, Manchester Police Officer Gerad Gonzalez and Des Peres resident Joe Caruso risked their lives last week to pull an unconscious man from burning car right before it exploded. The accident happened at Dougherty Ferry and Carman roads, just on the outskirts of Manchester, around 9:51 p.m. Tuesday. The dramatic rescue from the fiery crash and the events that unfolded afterward were all caught on the police dash cam video in this article. It was thanks to emails from Patch readers that first alerted us to the selfless efforts of Officer Gonzalez, a 16-year veteran of law enforcement. St. Louis County Police are handling the crash investigation. I spoke with them yesterday and it's still being investigated, however, police, fire crews and witnesses on the scene that night tell Patch the Tahoe ran into the back of the Blazer (which was completely stopped at a red light).
