A lawsuit filed against the City of Manchester regarding the city's vicious dog ordinance has been dismissed after "pitbull" was removed from the ordinance.
The lawsuit filed on June 22 by Manchester resident Sheron McRoberts claimed the city's vicious dog ordinance was unfair because it deemed certain breeds, including pitbulls, as "vicious" dogs. At the time the suit was filed, the City of Manchester’s dog ordinance required breeds considered "vicious" to always be on a lead and it forbid them from running at large and unleashed, even in their own backyard. (Read Previous Article: Manchester Sued Over Dog Ordinance) After the suit was filed, Manchester, like many other surrounding St. Louis cites, updated its vicious animal ordinance to remove any breed specific qualifications. In October, Manchester Aldermen voted unanimously to remove the word "pitbull" from the city's animal control …

Town and Country no longer categorizes pitbulls as "vicious" dogs. In fact, the city completely removed its vicious dog ordinance Monday night.
Town and Country aldermen unanimously voted Monday to completely remove the city's vicious dog ordinance from city code. (Sign up here for the FREE Patch Newsletter, including Breaking News Alerts.) By removing the city's ordinance, Town and Country is now covered by St. Louis County's "vicious dog ordinance" which categorizes dogs as "vicious" based on their behavior alone. The county's ordinance does not deem any specific breed as vicious. Prior to Monday night's vote, Town and Country's ordinance did deem pitbulls as a "vicious" dog and, as previously reported by Patch, it was a city code many felt was unfair and outdated. The ordinance came under review when it became an issue between two neighbors, one who had a dog, a mutt, that may …

Heat stroke occurs when a dog’s temperature reaches 106 degrees, necessitating immediate emergency medical treatment to prevent organ damage and death. Here are some helpful tips to prevent such a tragedy.
Every other week, Dr. Patrick Tate, chief of the veterinary staff and a general practitioner at Webster Groves Animal Hospital, answers reader questions about pets. This week's question comes from Sean Miller and its one that affects many people and their pets around West County right now. Question: What is heat stroke in a dog, and how can pet owners prevent it? Answer: Each year thousands of dogs suffer from heat stroke, often with fatal results. In many cases, owners are not aware that their dogs are developing this condition until it is too late to reverse the damage. I have seen many heat-related tragedies that could have been easily prevented. Heat stroke is actually a form of non-pyrogenic (non-fever) hyperthermia. Hyperthermia …

That's what aldermen want to know. Patch readers can take the poll in this article and post their thoughts in the comment section of this article.
Town and Country city leaders are discussing possibly building a dog park, but first, they want hear from residents. The city's Parks and Trails Commission Chairman, Alderman Lynn Wright, tells Patch the idea of a dog park has been brought up by residents. What Wright and other aldermen want to know is if the community as a whole would welcome a dog park, or is it just a few people. "Are we just hearing it from a few people or do we really want a dog park?" asked Wright. "When it was looked at years ago, we decided not to do it at the time, but now people have been asking for it. We (aldermen) are asking for the community's feelings and then the Parks and Trails Commission will review it." "I think people really want it," Alderman Phil …

Ms. Biondo, Thank you for your article. It gives me hope that larger towns and cities may see this and realize that the breed isn't the problem, but "the people behind the leash." I own an American Pitbull Terrier. She is the most loving, sweetest dog I have ever owned. To think because of her breed, she is "vicious." This makes me angry.
