The walking trail and road repavement for phase one of Town and Country's Clayton Road Project is complete. Now it's time for phase two.
Phase one of the Clayton Road Trail and Resurfacing Project is complete. Ground was broken in September and construction began in October beginning Phase 1 of the three-phase project to repave Clayton Road from Hwy 141 to the city limits near Bopp Road. The project also includes creating a multi-use pedestrian trail on the north side of Clayton Road and installing a pedestrian walkway on the existing bridge over Hwy 141 which will connect the sidewalk on the north side of Clayton Road at Old Woods Mill Road to the intersection at Clayton Road and Woods Mill Road. Road crews are making progress on resurfacing Clayon road as they conduct night work this week. Here's what's in store for the rest of the week.
Town and Country Department of Public Works Director Craig Wilde reports that resurfacing west of Mason Road is compete and offers an update Thursday on what's still to come. He said traffic delays will be minimal. Wilde released the following information in an email update on the Clayton Road Trail and Resurfacing Project. Over the last two nights, we managed to complete the new surface west of Mason Road. The only paving work which remains on that end of the project is the tie in for the pavement at Masonridge Road. Currently, we are paving the westbound lane between Oak Springs and Mason and will attempt to make the return trip covering the eastbound lane yet tonight. Police are beefing up patrols as crews work to resurface Clayon Road, night work is expected to last all week long in an effort to avoid daytime traffic issues. Check out this week's schedule here.
UPDATED: 10:15 a.m., Monday- Town and Country road crews will begin night work this week on the Clayton Road Trail and Resurfacing Project. Night work starts at 7 p.m. Monday and will wrap up each morning by 5 a.m. The work is expected to wrap up by Saturday morning. Crews will be applying the final surface on the portion of Clayton Road between Old Woods Mill and Oak Springs. The police department will be conducting extra enforcement in the area to keep workers safe. Drivers are advised to plan their travel accordingly. Town and Country road crews will begin working at the intersection of Mason and Clayton roads at 6 a.m. Thursday and will then head westbound toward Old Woods Mill Road. Drivers are urged to avoid these areas if possible to help alleviate traffic issues. Overnight work begins on the Clayton Road Project Monday. Wedging east of Mason Road and the milling west of Mason Road are now complete and should not see rush hour traffic delays in that area, according to Town and Country Department of Public Works Director Craig Wilde. The dry weather over most of the last week allowed crews to make some progress on the Clayton Road Trail and Resurfacing Project, especially the paving of the trail. Town and Country Department of Public Works Director Craig Wilde also sent photos included in this article that show the recent progress. This winter's wet weather has not only caused delays for construction of the Clayton Road Trail and Resurfacing Project, but it's also created soggy, muddy conditions related to the grading for the trail. Town and Country Department of Public Works Director Craig Wilde just met with the project's contractor to discuss those issues and the work schedule over the coming weeks. Wilde released the following email update on the Clayton Road Trail Project. This week, they will complete most of the peripheral items such as demolition of remaining sidewalk, storm sewer pipe work and the last of the access ramps. An apparent 19th century limestone foundation was unearthed during Clayton Road Trail construction.

Recent rain delayed the paving process of the Clayton Road Trail. Check out the updated schedule, plus landscaping plans for the project.
The goal to have the new Clayton Road Trail along Clayton Road paved by Thanksgiving did not happen due to the recent weather. Department of Public Works Director Craig Wilde wrote in an email that work was stalled due to the large amount of rain. Wilde released the following email update on the Clayton Road Trail Project. We really have had our progress slowed by the weather the last few weeks. Initially, we wanted to have the trail paved by Thanksgiving. Obviously, that did not happen. With the rain that we have received, the grading has not been able to proceed as we would have liked. In the mean time, we are working on installing the ADA ramps. Demolition has begun in front of the firehouse at Mason and Clayton roads in Town and Country.
Traffic is not expected to be impacted this week by the demolition taking place in front of the firehouse at Mason and Clayton roads, Department of Public Works Director Craig Wilde wrote in an email. Wilde released the following email update on the Clayton Road Trail Project. "We have started the demolition of the existing sidewalk in front of the firehouse. Ameren UE has also had some crews on site to excavate for two power pole relocations just west of Mason Road. Omni Tree Service continues to work on the removal of the existing vegetation.
