Sixteen people, including a Ballwin man, have been arrested in connection to a multi-state car theft conspiracy, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office Tuesday.

Prosecutors stated Sheldon Mitchell, 42, of Ballwin is among those arrested. The following details of the case and arrests were included in a U.S. Attorney's Office press release Tuesday. Sixteen people have been arrested on a federal indictment charging twenty-one defendants involved in a multi-state car theft conspiracy. The conspiracy is alleged to have utilized several different schemes to steal and misappropriate vehicles, commit bank fraud in order to obtain vehicles, and obtain insurance proceeds by staging accidents and filing false theft reports. Town and Country police are reminding residents to lock their car doors after recent overnight thefts.

Town and Country police are alerting residents to recent thefts from vehicles and reminding them to lock their car doors. Authorities sent out the details in an email this week. Police said a number of unlocked cars in the Bryn Wyck neighborhood, between Conway and Ladue roads, had items stolen during the overnight hours of March 28. The email also stated that several weeks ago police received reports of items being stolen from unlocked cars in the Cheshire Farm and Conway Road area. Town and Country police sent out an email alert warning residents of recent car break-ins, including cars parked at the Town and Country Crossing shopping center. In the email, police stated that small items were stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway in the 400 block of Cheshire Farm Lane between 9 p.m., March 27 and 9 a.m., March 28. In addition, police stated that two additional thefts took place from cars in the parking lot of Town and Country Crossing. One person was reportedly cut from the wreckage after the accident on the outskirts of Manchester.
St. Louis County police said a pick-up truck crashed Monday night near the intersection of Highway 141 and Big Bend Road around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday. Police said alcohol may have played a role in the crash. Two people were hospitalized as a result of the accident involving the 2004 Ford F350 pick-up truck. According to FOX 2 News, the truck hit a concrete post and one person had to be extricated from the wreckage. Police tell Patch, two 21-year-olds were taken to Mercy Hospital, one with a broken right leg.

Police and fire crews reportedly responded to the scene to find the wrecked car vacant and the driver and passenger hiding nearby.
The following information was supplied by the Town and Country Police Department. One person was arrested for DWI after a car accident off Highway 40 in Town and Country. Town and Country police tell Patch, the accident happened just after 11 p.m. Monday along westbound Highway 40 before Maryville Center Drive. Police said a car was vandalized in a business parking garage this week around lunchtime.
The following information was supplied by the Town and Country Police Department. Town and Country police are searching for suspects after what's being called a "criminal property damage" incident took place in a parking garage between 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Wednesday. The garage at 14522 South Outer Forty reportedly serves a number of nearby businesses, including the Suburban Journals. Town and Country police stated that someone cut off all four valve stems from the victim’s vehicle. According to police, valve stems stick out from the tires and are used to inflate and deflate the tire. Investigator said the victim has no known enemies and is unsure why she would be targeted. Town and Country police and West County EMS and Fire Protection District rescue crews responded to the accident at Route 141 and Highway 40 around 1 p.m. Monday. No word yet on exactly how the crash happened, but one car struck a utility pole head on at the corner of the Highway 40 entrance ramp and South Outer 40 Road.
