Last-Minute Brilliance Leads Ladue To Huge Upset Win Over No. 2 CBC

Rams get 20 points from Andrew Maddock, and 16 points from Cornell Johnston in 60-58 victory over Cadets in championship game of DC Wilcutt Tournament.

From the moment he realized his team would be facing the No. 2 ranked team in all of St. Louis area basketball, in the championship game of the DC Wilcutt Tournament, Ladue High head coach Chad Anderson preached the same mantra over and over again. (For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) "I told our kids (Thursday) at practice, and (Friday) before the game," said Anderson, "in order for us to win the big games, you've got to believe in yourself, number one. You've got to compete. And you've got to trust your teammates. And I think that is the difference in this team and the past teams we've had. These kids believe." Well, that belief became reality late Friday night, as Ladue earned its biggest win -- possibly ever…

Big Night Of Local Hoops Includes Doubleheader At MICDS, Ladue In Championship Game At CBC

Bombers' and Rams' boys and girls will begin the night with double-dip at McDonnell, while No. 7 Ladue hopes to play giant-killer against No. 2 CBC.

The first big night of the high school hoops season comes tonight, with a trio of big ballgames featuring some of the best teams from the West County area. (For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) On a city-wide scale, most eyes will be trained on the championship game of the DC Wilcutt Tournament out at CBC High School in Town and Country, where the Ladue High boys will take on the No. 2-ranked CBC Cadets at 8 p.m. CBC was the area's preseason No. 1, with at least three top college prospects on their roster, including 6'7 swingman Jordan Barnett, 6'6 power forward Ray Doby, and 6'6 shooting guard Patrick McCaw. Youngsters Ready To Take Over CBC Hoops Tradition

The Cadets have four senior leaders, but they'll rely on a talented junior class that went 23-2 at the JV level last year.

If it weren’t for having to play the number one team in the city four times last season, the Christian Brothers College High School boys basketball team would have had itself a fantastic season in 2010-2011. The Cadets went 19-8 last year, but take away those four losses to the Bradley Beal-led Chaminade Red Devils. CBC would have had a championship-caliber season, and would have easily been considered one of the favorites to win state. Instead, it was Chaminade that had the number one ranking and got all the glory last year. This year though, CBC head hoops coach Bob McCormack believes he has a squad, young as it is, that can accomplish some of the things last year’s team couldn’t. “I think we learned a lot last year,” McCormack said. “It…

CBC Misses Perfect Season in Title Game

The football Cadets met their match against a team with multi-year experience in the championship game.

Christian Brothers College High School's  perfect season came to an end Friday night, imperfectly. The Cadets fell 37-40 to the Blue Springs South Jaguars (12-2) in the Class 6 football state final last night at the Edward Jones Dome. CBC ends with a 12-1 record. In spite of senior Dalton Demos' 330 yards passing and junior Aarion Maxey-Penton’s total 201 yards, the Jaguars, who had been to the Dome, and won, three previous times in the past ten years, did it again. “It could have went the other way,” CBC coach Scott Pingel said. “I think we missed a couple throws that we normally hit. We missed a couple catches we normally make. We missed a couple tackles we normally make. We never found a great rhythm tonight. ” Blue Springs South’s …

Top-Ranked CBC Pounds Parkway South, Clinches District Title, Playoff Berth

Powered by 28-point third quarter, Cadets blow past Patriots for 47-0 win, and earn themselves a home playoff game, next week against Hazelwood Central.

TOWN AND COUNTRY – The top-ranked football team in both the citywide and statewide top 10 rankings looked every bit the part Friday night, as the No. 1 CBC Cadets blasted visiting Parkway South 47-0, in the final game of the regular season at CBC’s Ross Stadium. “We had some spurts where we did look good,” CBC head coach Scott Pingel said. “We started off a little slow in the first half. We had some fumbled snaps that kind of put us in holes. But there’s always things we could clean up. But at the end of the day we’re pretty happy.” Indeed they should be, as the Cadets (10-0) wrapped up a perfect regular season with the shutout win over the Patriots, and can now add Class 6 District 3 champions to their list of 2011 accomplishments, which …

Chaminade Makes Most Of Opportunities Against Cadets

Chaminade withstood a barrage of CBC offensive pressure midway through the first half and made the most of counterattack opportunities to improve to 5-2 on the season with win over CBC.

A weekend contest between two of the area's top soccer programs on Saturday saw the Chaminade Red Devils capitalize on a counterattack opportunity in the first half, and then ice the match with a second goal late in the game to claim victory over Metro Catholic Conference rival CBC. Chaminade held the Cadets scoreless in the 2-0 victory behind firm goalkeeping by junior Tyler Eades. The Red Devils' first half goal came courtesy of Tommy Barlow, a sophomore striker who had numerous strong runs through the Cadet defense during the game. Jordan Bay tallied the second goal on a scurry in front of the CBC net with 13 minutes to play. "We played really well in the back...any time you can shut CBC out you've probable done something right in the …
