CBC Gets Ahead Early, Wins District Baseball Title

Cadet Pitcher Dan Herrmann held Parkway North hitless until the third inning.

Parkway North may have been the number one seed in the district four baseball playoff tournament which concluded Wednesday on the Vikings' campus, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a much better team coming down the stretch than the CBC Cadets, who won 8 eight of their last nine heading into the title game against Parkway North. Wednesday, the Cadets got to North pitcher Joe Hope early and chased the Sophomore after taking a 5-0 second inning lead behind two early RBI by CBC's Bobby Lang en route to an 11-6 win. The Cadets got five innings from starter Dan Herrmann, who didn't give up a hit until an Ellis Brodsky single in the third inning. The Parkway North (20-6) bench complained about getting squeezed in the strike zone early, but shaky…

New CBC Hoops Coach Justin Tatum: School Is Built For Winning

The Cadet alum returns to the fold, talking about challenging his new team, replacing a mentor, and his own son's future.

A week after being announced as the school's new varsity boys basketball coach, 1997 graduate Justin Tatum sat down with Patch for a one-on-one interview Thursday afternoon. Tatum was hired to replace Bob McCormack, another CBC graduate who was on the bench for 17 years, including Tatum's team as a senior which won a state title. McCormack's coaching contract was not renewed after the Cadets, with a team featuring three future Division I caliber players, fell in the district championship game to rival De Smet Jesuit after losing to the Spartans a week earlier. Tatum comes to the school from a successful stint at Soldan High School in the PSL, where he was also Athletic Director. It’s tough," Tatum said of replacing McCormack, who was just …

Bobby McCormack Named Head Basketball Coach at St. Louis Priory

McCormack will continue as a physical education teacher at CBC, which opted not to renew his contract to coach.

Bobby McCormack will not have to travel far to find his next coaching destination. McCormack, the former CBC Head Basketball Coach who learned last month that his contract would not be renewed, was announced Tuesday as the next boys basketball coach at St. Louis Priory. "I am extremely excited about it," McCormack said by phone Tuesday morning, talking about a chance for "a new phase" after 17 years coaching at CBC. He will remain as a physical education teacher at CBC, a situation he told Patch would not be akward even with his exit from the bench and the recent hire of Justin Tatum as his successor. McCormack moves to a program which went 4-22 in the Metro League in 2012 under Rick Suarez. He said the chance to work with students in the …

Justin Tatum: Hired at CBC, What a Stunner!

Soldan coach returns home to take over the reins of the CBC Cadets basketball program.

(For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) Oh, my God, Justin Tatum was just named CBC’s next basketball coach. What shocking news. As if the whole world didn’t know this was wired and that all they had to do was can 17-year dedicated veteran coach Bobby McCormack and hire one of his disciples. The good Brothers at CBC did that and more. What a revelation.  The win-at-all-cost agenda has landed at the school in Town and Country.  The mentality of hiring and firing on the spot has now gone from the pros to college to the prep ranks. Win, brother or you are thrown out like the baby with the bathwater. This sucks. Bobby McCormack did so many good things for CBC. He built a dynamite summer camping program. He taught boys …

Update: CBC Hires Justin Tatum As Head Basketball Coach

Speculation will now turn to the future of Tatum's son Jayson, a rising Sophomore at Metro Catholic Conference rival Chaminade.

CBC announced the hiring of Justin Tatum, a 1997 graduate of the school and the current Head Coach at Soldan as the next Cadets Boys Varisty Basketball Coach Thursday evening.  The St. Louis Post-Dispatch was first to report the hiring. "We received resumes from many coaches with proven track records of success in directing high school basketball programs. The Selection Committee was unanimous in its opinion that Justin Tatum was the best choice for CBC High School," Athletic Director Rocky Streb said in a statement, which indicated national interest in the job. A search committee included Football Coach Scott Pingel, Soccer Coach Terry Michler, and former NFL defensive back Justin Lucas, a teacher and administrator at the school.  Tatum …

Pro or Con, Emotions Running High on Bobby McCormack Termination

CBC faithful not thrilled at all with the views of Baer Facts.

No topic has stirred the pitched level of emotions than the termination of basketball coach Bobby McCormack at CBC. Suffice to say, Jim Baer won't be invited to break bread with the Brothers of CBC anytime soon. Here's the pro's and con's so far of emails and comments: Jim Blase, SLUH grad LOVED your article! I do not even know the man (am a SLUH grad), but have just been outraged over this. The great career this coach has had, and they fire him, AFTER A 20 WIN SEASON???? Like you imply, this is a Catholic institution?? H. Bommarito You should be ashamed! THis is such blaten false information! Tyler Kacich I would like to thank you for posting such a humorous article. I enjoyed reading your idiotic facts and all you're very "knowledgeable…

CBC Brothers, Be Careful What You Wish For, You Just Might Get It

Cadets highest-ranked officials pull the bone head play of the century.

I’m still trying to figure out that whole De La Salle tradition preached by the Brothers of CBC. Over the course of some four decades of prep reporting, I’ve seen my share of poor decisions and bone-head moves. The Brothers at CBC get the all-time top prize for dismissing their beloved basketball coach Bobby McCormack after 17 years at the helm. Now I’m not naive enough to believe that Bobby won the hearts and minds of everyone at the school in Town & Country. Sure, he probably rubbed a few players and parents the wrong way. But let this be crystal clear--by refusing to renew Bobby’s basketball coaching contract and pushing him out the door after 17 years of loyal service to the Purple and Gold, the school has crossed that imaginary line …

CBC Confirms McCormack Out As Head Basketball Coach

The longtime Cadet basketball coach will remain on the school's faculty.

A spokesman for CBC High School Wednesday confirmed a report that leaked out late Tuesday night that longtime basketball coach Bob McCormack will no longer coach the Cadets after 17 seasons on the bench. (Read Previous Story: CBC Basketball Coach Reportedly Asked to Resign) Rob Staggenborg told Patch that the formal decision not to renew McCormack's contract as coach came Wednesday morning and that the decision was made by Athletic Director Rocky Streb and Principal Br. David Poos. Parents were being notified Wednesday morning. McCormack has not returned a message seeking comment. Staggenborg said coaches were evaluated on an annual basis and that "nothing wrong" happened. McCormack will remain on the faculty of the school. Staggenborg …

CBC Basketball Coach Reportedly Asked to Resign

After 17 years as CBC’s basketball coach, Bobby McCormack has reportedly been asked to resign, according to STLhighschoolsports.com.

According to STLhighschoolsports.com, three independent sources confirmed to the publication that CBC's basketball coach Bobby McCormack has been asked to resign after 17 years in that position. This news comes after Christian Brothers College High School President Mike England resigned suddenly in January after a reported 25 years with the school.  STLhighschoolsports.com stated in its article that the information was confirmed late Tuesday, but McCormack had not returned the publication's request for a comment on the matter. The article also stated that CBC’s Director of Communications Rob Staggenborg had no official word on the news. "A source close to CBC said McCormack has been asked to resign and that it was unlikely he would be …
