Blockbuster in Manchester to Close in March

Dish Network is closing nine of 16 Blockbusters in the St. Louis area.

Dish Network Corp, which owns Blockbuster, plans to close nine stores in the St. Louis area this spring, including one in Manchester.  The Manchester location, near Manchester and Woods Mill roads, will close March 24.  The closures are part of an announced plan to close 300 stores across the country. According to a story in the Denver Post, the closures include stores which were underperforming or were near the end of their leases.  About 500 Blockbuster stores were closed last year including 10 of 26 locations in St. Louis area, according to a story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Will Manchester's Blockbuster Remain Open?

Around the country Blockbuster Video stores are closing, but not in Manchester. At least not for now. Do you still rent videos and games? Take the Patch poll!

Around the country Blockbuster Video stores are reportedly closing. Reuters reports 500 stores will be shutting their doors in coming weeks, due to underperformance and unprofitability. That's approximately one third of Dish Network's Blockbuster stores, according to the report. However, staff at the Manchester location tells Patch that store will not be closing. The is store located at 65 Nationalway Shopping Center, near Highway 141 and Manchester Road.
