What's Wrong with Working from Home? Would You if You Could?

Now Best Buy has joined Yahoo! in banning employees from working from home.

Here at Patch, there is no "here." We all work from home. Or from coffee shops, public libraries, patios, porches and dining rooms—anywhere we can get a wi-fi signal. It keeps us nimble, keeps costs down and let's us work out in the world with the people in the communities we cover. It's a great gig. And not to gloat...but I was in the warmth of my home office working while some of you were fighting traffic during the recent snowstorms. But it's obviously not for everyone. Some people prefer the office environment, the regular interaction face-to-face with coworkers. And in the case of Marissa Mayer, CEO of Yahoo!, she wasn't having it anymore. She insisted several weeks ago that the company employees could no longer work from home. But …

Shopping Center with Walmart, Best Buy, Bed Bath & Beyond Sells Again

It changed hands in 2010. Now, the Post-Dispatch reports that the company owned by real estate developer and Rams owner Stan Kroenke assumes control.

The busy shopping center at the southeast corner of Highway 141 and Manchester Road has changed hands a little over two years since the last time, according to a report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The newspaper reported that the Phoenix firm that had owned the Manchester Highlands shopping center sold it this week to TKG, which is The Kroenke Group, owned by real estate developer and St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke. The parties did not disclose the purchase price. The center is anchored by Best Buy, Bed, Bath and Beyond and a Walmart Supercenter. It last sold in September 2010 to Cole Real Estate Investments in Phoenix, which paid $48.5 million for the center at the time.

Ellisville Best Buy Closing, Shoppers Sent to Manchester

When shoppers arrived at the Ellisville Best Buy Saturday, they were told the store was closed and referred to other nearby stores. The store is open for business Sunday as it prepares to shut down for good.

As previously reported by Town and Country - Manchester Patch, Best Buy is closing 50 stores nationwide.  This weekend, Best Buy announced on its website that the Ellisville store off Manchester Road is one of the stores closing. The store was closed on Saturday and would-be customers were referred to nearby Best Buys stores, including Manchester Highlands Best Buy and the Chesterfield Valley store.  As reported by KMOV, as customers showed up to shop Saturday, they were turned away and given a flier that directed them to the nearby locations.  Best Buy's website states customers "currently doing business" with the closing stores are being contacted.  The Ellisville store will be open again on Sunday and offer a 20 percent off sale on …

Is the Manchester store in danger of closing?

Best Buy announced Thursday that it will close 50 big box stores in the United States in an effort to improve its bottom line. CEO Brian Dunn said in a press release that as the consumer electronics industry evolves, the company is taking “major actions” to improve its operating performance. The company hopes its new multi-channel strategy will strengthen its portfolio of store formats. The strategy includes “closing some big box stores, modifying others to our enhanced Connected Store format, and adding Best Buy Mobile stand-alone locations,” Dunn said, noting that the company’s goal is to improve the shopping environment, increase its points of presence and improve performance, in addition to increasing profits. Most Retailers Not Offering Holiday Season Jobs

Most retailers surveyed said they planned to offer more overtime instead of hiring additional workers this holiday season.

Things are looking up for retailers as solid sales in recent months could mean that shoppers are ready to spend more this holiday season, according to an L.A. Times business report. Despite the expected sales growth, 67 percent of retailers surveyed by the Hay Group planned to keep their seasonal hiring at the same levels as last year, and 24 percent plan to hire even fewer workers. Designer Shoe Warehouse is located just off Manchester Road.
