Boy Scouts May End Ban on Gay Leaders, Scouts

The Boy Scouts of America affirmed its ban on gay scouts and leaders in July of 2012.

A spokesman for the Boy Scouts of America has told USA Today that the organization may announce a change to its policy on gay scouts and leaders as early as next week. (For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) The spokesperson said BSA would allow gay scouts and troop leaders, which is an about face for the organization. "The policy change under discussion would allow the religious, civic, or educational organizations that oversee and deliver Scouting to determine how to address this issue," BSA spokesman Deron Smith said in a statement to USA Today. St. Louis County Reportedly Considers Funeral Protest Ban

The ban would be similar to the those passed by other St. Louis area cities, including Manchester.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, St. Louis County Councilman Steve Stenger, D-Affton, wants to pass legislation that would restrict funeral protests. (Read Previous Story: Appeals Court Rules Manchester Can Restrict Funeral Protests) Stenger wants legislation that would mirror Creve Coeur's city ordinance which was passed this week by the city council, the Post reports. Creve Coeur and Clayton have both recently passed ordinances similar to Manchester's city ordinance which prohibits protests within 300 feet of a funeral one hour before and one hour after services. Smoking Ban in St. Louis County Casinos?

There's reportedly a push to make area casinos smoke-free and it could take a step closer to reality Tuesday.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, St. Louis County Councilman Mike O’Mara plans to introduce legislation Tuesday to apply the St. Louis County smoking ban to county casinos. Do We Need A Ban on Assault Rifles?

In the wake of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut, the owner of a military and law enforcement supply store in Chesterfield says such laws and regulations won't solve the problem.

@Trisha Ray - Please check your facts and information regarding guns before posting; practically all guns sold to private citizens are semi-automatic. The few guns like lever action and bolt action rifles would be different. so with your 'suggestions' on who should own guns - it will be only the outlaws. Since you know how closely the outlaws obey the laws.   more ›
