Emergency legislation was enacted Monday night, and Timothy Walsh was nominated and appointed to the position.
Monday night was a night of change for the City of Manchester. It started with the swearing in of two new aldermen, Paul Hamill of Ward 1, who is replacing Bob Tullock; John Schrader of Ward 3, who is replacing Don Ryan; along with re-elected Ward 2 Alderman Michael Clement. All three aldermen received standing ovations by the public after they were sworn in. Alderman Paul Hamill later introduced an ordinance appointing Acting Police Chief Lt. Timothy Walsh to the position of police chief permanently. Walsh has served as the city's police chief for nearly two years. He was nominated to be appointed to the position permanently in August of 2010, but the measure was not passed by the board of aldermen. Read Previous Story: Does a New Board …

Zimmerman’s first order of business is to conduct a review of systems and processes.
While his official swearing in as St. Louis County's Assessor took place Wednesday, Jake Zimmerman has already started assessing his staff and how they go about the business of setting property assessments. Zimmerman was sworn in at a noon ceremony held in the St. Louis County Council chambers at 41 S. Central Ave., in Clayton. Zimmerman, a Democrat, defeated Republican candidate L.K. “Chip” Wood for the office on April 5, the first time the assessor's position has been an elected one. Before the meeting, however, Zimmerman had already gotten to work. He held a town hall-type meeting April 15 with members of his staff to learn some of their thoughts and concerns, he said. “I've been doing some preliminary work and meeting with people one-…

Manchester's new alderman are ready to tackle a host of issues, including hiring a police chief, while Town and Country's one opposed incumbent kept his seat.
Call it a wave of fresh blood or a call to action. Call it whatever you like, but change was the order of the day (and night) as voters in Manchester swept out incumbents and ushered in some new, and not so new, faces in aldermanic races. Click here for election results. Paul Hamill was Ward 1 alderman in Manchester from 2008-2010 and returned for another term this election after beating incumbent Bob Tullock Tuesday night. “I feel very good (about winning),” Hamill said. “My first priority will be hiring a permanent police chief for Manchester." The city has been without one for two years. Lieutenant Tim Walsh has been acting police chief in the interim and Hamill said he would like to see Mayor David Willson nominate Lieutenant Walsh for…

The Olivette state representative had 73,356 votes to 41,645 for Wood. In a speech, Zimmerman said, "I've been in enough parties like this on the losing side to know when it's impossible to come back." Zimmerman thanked all his supporters for their work during the campaign. He also extended an olive branch to Wood. "We have run a great campaign, but from here on out, it's not about politics," he said. "It's about treating people the same and getting it done right." "He's …

John Schrader says a smear campaign flier sent out trashing him is false and deceiving. Alderman Don Ryan stands by the mailing, but says he never saw the flier before it was mailed.
John Schrader said he did not think the election would come to this. On March 25, Schrader, candidate for Ward 3 alderman in Manchester, received a campaign flier from the Committee to Re-Elect Don Ryan. Schrader is running against Ryan who is the incumbent Ward 3 alderman. Schrader said he was outraged at the flier and Ryan's smear tactics. The flier shows Schrader's face peering through the blinds of a window with the headline, "What's John Schrader hiding from you?" Patch readers can view the flier which is included in the photo section of this article. "This is past the point of disgusting in my opinion," Schrader said of the flier, which was sent to other residents of Ward 3. The campaign flier accuses Schrader of being evicted from …

The citizens of Manchester are ecstatic! Personally, this was an extremely happy & emotional board meeting. Our wonderful city will now be represented by Aldermen who are respectful to the citizens & care more about the city than themselves. Many, many citizens worked long & hard to finally get to this point. And we could not be happier with the outcome... as witnessed by the continuous standing …   more ›
