MoDOT Celebrates 100 Year Anniversary This Month

MoDOT celebrated one century of operation in March. How much do you know about the transportation department?

The Missouri Department of Transportation announced it's celebrating its 100th year anniversary this month. MoDOT released the following details of its creation in a news release. One hundred years ago, just after President Woodrow Wilson was inaugurated and as women campaigned for the right to vote, the Missouri General Assembly created the State Highway Department. Because on March 22, 1913, the precursor to today’s Missouri Department of Transportation came to be, Governor Jay Nixon recently issued a proclamation recognizing the 100thanniversary of the Missouri Department of Transportation.  “At that time, most road building equipment was mule-powered,” said MoDOT interim director Dave Nichols. “Today, our skilled crews and contractors …

9/11, Ground Zero Rescue Mission Remembered by New West County Fire Chief

On the eleventh anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, West County's newly named Fire Chief Ernie Rhodes shares his experience of a rescue mission at Ground Zero so Americans never forget the loss suffered that day.

Ernie Rhodes was name the new fire chief of West County EMS & Fire Protection District last week. He brings extensive experience with him to the new position, including 32 years in the fire service. He was deployed to Ground Zero to assist after the World Trade Center attacks, where he worked for ten days assisting with search and rescue efforts. "I was deployed the day of the attack about an hour and half after the attack," Rhodes explains.  Rhodes was a FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Specialist assigned to a reconnaissance squad that searched for signs of trapped survivors. Happy Birthday Town and Country - Manchester Patch!

Today is the one-year anniversary of Town and Country - Manchester Patch. Can you believe it?

I can't! The time has flown by! It seems like just yesterday we launched the local news website. I remember wondering if there would really be enough news in Manchester and Town and Country to keep a news site constantly updated. Wow! What a crazy thought. Who knew there was so much news, so many stories to be told? Not me, but I have certainly learned over the last year. Since launching on Nov. 22, 2011, so much has happened. In addition to breaking news, Town and Country - Manchester Patch has covered some very serious stories including the censuring of an alderman, the controversial management of deer overpopulation and the death of a teenager struck on Highway 141. 9/11 - Ten Years Later

Town and Country, Manchester Honor 9/11 Victims

"Patch" provides information on events to remember the 10-year anniversary of 9/11.

Manchester Wreath Laying Ceremony When/Where: The City of Manchester will hold a wreath laying ceremony at 8:46 a.m. (the time the first plane hit the Twin Towers) on Sunday at the Manchester Veterans Memorial off Henry Avenue. Events: Mayor Dave Willson will read a portion of his proclamation regarding the events of Sept. 11 during the laying of the wreath. Manchester police and fire crews will participate in the ceremony. Schools and churches have been invited, and Boy Scouts are expected to attend as well. The wreath will then be taken to Manchester City Hall where it will be displayed.
