The ambulance crossed Weidman Road and struck a building as crews were responding to medical emergency at Manchester's Golds Gym.
A West County EMS and Fire Protection District ambulance was on a medical call Thursday morning when it rolled down a parking lot, crossed Weidman road without hitting any cars and hit an office building across the street. "It went across Weidman Road and onto Consort (Drive), the office park across the street," West County Deputy Chief Jeff Sadtler tells Patch. "It broke a window. It literally barely touched the building. The corner of the rear bumper touched the building and broke it. Other than the broken window, there was no structural damage." Sadtler said EMS crews from Fire Station 2, located near Mason and Manchester roads, were responding to the call at Gold's Gym around 7:30 a.m. Thursday when the incident happened. The ambulance…

Manchester fire crews responded to a car accident with a ruptured gas line and a house fire Wednesday.
Manchester fire crews responded to a car accident with a ruptured gas line and a house fire Wednesday. Deputy Chief Jeff Sadtler with West County EMS and Fire Protection District tells Town and Country - Manchester Patch that there were no injuries in either call. Fire crews were first called to a car accident at Highway 141 and Dutch Mill Road Wednesday morning. Sadtler said one car broadsided another and a gas tank was ruptured. Fire crews sprayed foam around the scene to avoid a fire or explosion. Crews were later called to a house fire around 4:15 p.m. in the 400 block of Lynwood Forest Drive. Sadtler said the fire actually started on the deck which was attached to the home and extended into the house. The homeowner was at home when …

Two new fire and ambulance contracts save the City of Town and Country $673,000 annually, but a new neighborhood has board members divided Monday night.
Two, 5-year fire and ambulance service contracts were approved by the Town and Country Board of Aldermen Monday night, but the meeting started off with concern from an alderman about previous comments not being included in board minutes. Ward 3 Alderman Steve Fons expressed concern over the fact that his comments/questions about a new subdivision, The Estates at Town and Country Crossing, were not reflected in the minutes from the July 11 meeting. At the last board meeting, Fons expressed numerous concerns about the homes in the plan. "I don't mean to be disrespectful, but I don't know anyone who would be interested in a home like this," Fons said. "It looks 'prefab.' " Fons made a motion Monday night to add his July 11 comments to the …

The Town and Country Board of Aldermen could take action on a number of issues including the city's emergency services and moving forward with a new neighborhood. Homeowners could also soon qualify for energy efficiency loans.
Two contracts affecting Town and Country's fire and ambulance service could be voted on Monday night at the Town and Country Board of Aldermen meeting. At the end of the last board meeting, aldermen and the mayor went into closed session, then returned to open session in the board chambers to add two new bills to the agenda for first reading. Bill 11-37 would authorized a Fire and Ambulance Service Agreement and Lease with the West County EMS and Fire Protection District. Bill 11-38 would authorized an agreement between the city of Town and Country and the Central County Emergency 911 for dispatching services. Both bills are set to be read again and could be voted on at Monday's meeting. Since Town and Country does not have its own fire …

For the second time in five years, a Town and Country fire service committee appointed to make recommendations on the city's fire and EMS service issues no report.
For the second time in five years, there was a specially appointed committee in Town and Country to study fire and EMS service and make a recommendation about how fire and EMS services should be delivered to the citizens. I'm intrigued, however, by the mystery of how this committee doesn't ever seem to recommend anything. Town and Country does not have its own fire and ambulance service, it contracts out to the West County EMS and Fire Protection District. The last five-year contract between Town and Country and the West County EMS and Fire Protection District expired at midnight on New Year’s Eve. There was even a special meeting scheduled on New Year’s Eve because no agreement had been reached between the city the district. Prior to that…

The West County EMS and Fire Protection District Board voted Monday night to begin billing residents' insurance for ambulance service.
The issue has been discussed for months and Monday night the West County EMS and Fire Protection District Board of Directors voted to begin charging resident's insurance companies for ambulance service. "We want residents to understand there is no cost to them," West County EMS Community Liaison Kim Bacon explained. "So in a time of crisis there will not be a charge. They will never see a bill." The proposal passed unanimously and will take effect Jan. 1. The decision comes after the district provided information in a newsletter and online and sought public comment at a Nov. 1 public meeting. No residents showed up at that meeting with questions, concerns or to address the board. Chief Dave Frazier said the district had been contacted by…

This was a good move to start billing the insurance companies. I know that a lot of residents think that they have already paid for the service by tax. I hope most know how important a good EMS and Fire propram is and that it does not come cheap considering the cost of equipment, training and personal. You guys are doing a great job.
