Is Ballwin The Best Deal For Manchester Police Calls?

Manchester Police Chief Tim Walsh thinks so. Here's what he told aldermen after being told to shop around for the best police dispatching deal before renewing the city's contract with Ballwin.

The Manchester Board of Aldermen recently heard from Manchester Police Chief Tim Walsh on a proposed plan to renew the city's contract with the Ballwin Police Department for police dispatching services.  (Read Previous Story: Police Dispatch Price Shopping Pushed by Manchester Alderman However, when Walsh explained the proposal to aldermen, Alderman Marilyn Ottenad asked if he'd gotten price quotes from other nearby dispatch centers or police departments.  (Sign up here for the FREE Patch Newsletter, including Breaking News Alerts.) A correction to your story above. Creve Coeur no longer dispatches its own units. They are apart of the West Central Dispatch, which includes Town & Country, Creve Coeur, and Frontenac. Manchester's options for dispatching include staying with Ballwin, going to West Central, or going to St. Louis County. Who Picks Up the Phone When You Dial 911?

West County EMS, the fire and paramedic service that covers both Town and Country and Manchester, may soon have its calls routed through a larger dispatch service.

West County EMS emergency calls are handled by Central County Emergency 911, a dispatching service in Ellisville that answers about 30,000 emergency calls from across west St. Louis and Franklin counties. West County EMS responded to over 4900 of those calls last year, with around 60 percent of the calls originating in the Town and Country or Manchester areas, according to West County EMS Chief David Frazier. Central County is working on a merger with North Central Fire Alarm, a similar dispatching service that handles calls for 17 fire and EMS departments in North St. Louis County, including fire departments in Kinloch, Spanish Lake, Florissant Valley and Hazelwood. Feb 29: 300 block of Morewood Drive Stealing: A resident chased a male after he was reportedly spotted rummaging through a neighbors vehicle.  After the chase, the resident called police who were able to locate the suspicious male. Police said he was located and arrested, along with a second subject. Police said the two were working together. Feb 25: 300 block of Autumn Creek Drive Stealing: A taxi driver reported driving two passengers from downtown St. Louis to an apartment building. Oct. 26: 400 block of Lindy Boulevard Burglary: Police said resident spotted two people rifling through a neighbor's vehicle, which was parked in the victim's driveway. Police said the two then reportedly entered the garage. Investigators spoke to the victim once they received the report, but said it appears nothing was stolen. Oct. 24: 600 Block Connie Lane  Vandalism: A resident called police reporting the front of their home had been shot with paintballs. No word on any permanent damage. Vanilla Breath is a Dead Giveaway A woman was arrested Sept. 1 for stealing under $500 at the Shop N Save store in the first block of Gravois Bluffs Plaza. Police said the suspect hid two bottles of vanilla extract in her purse and paid for the rest of her groceries, but failed to pay for the vanilla. Police said that when the woman was asked why she stole the vanilla she responded "I’m an alcoholic and drink the vanilla extract so my husband won’t find out I’m drinking again." The Things We Steal A mirror and hairbrush were reported stolen in a burglary Sept. 14 in the 7100 block of Circleview Drive in Affton. Sept 9: 2841 North Ballas Road Theft: Between 6:55 p.m. and 8:05 p.m. a car was broken into on the parking lot of the Parkway United Church of Christ. A purse with a credit card inside it was stolen, police report. Sept. 9: 12800 block of Topping Woods Estates Theft: Police said sometime between midnight and noon, a purse, containing credit cards, was stolen from the rear floorboard of an unlocked car parked in the driveway of a residence. August 20: 800 block Carman Oaks Court Property Damage: Police said a resident came home from church to find the two left tires of his parked car slashed and deflated. August 18: 200 block of Highlands Boulevard Drive Stealing: A business in the Manchester Highlands shopping complex reported two people stealing merchandise for the store. Store employees told police the two were putting the items in their pockets. Police said, six packages of prepared lunch meat, a pair of sunglasses and a red bandana were recovered from the two. August 2: 1000 block Briarhurst Drive Stealing: Police said a toolbox and tools were reported stolen from a car. There did not appear to be forced entry. No word on the value of the stolen items. August 2: 500 block Old Meramec Station Road Trespassing: Police arrested three people who reportedly trespassed at Schroeder Park and gained entry to the locked pool. August 1: 400 block Lynwood Forest Drive Stealing: Police said a car was broken into and a radar detector was stolen from the car, however, the theft was interrupted by police who showed up on the scene.
