Incumbents Keep Parkway School Board Seats

Incumbents Sam Sciortino and Tom Appelbaum kept their Parkway School Board seats in the April 2 election.

UPDATED 12:50 p.m., Wed., April 3- Voters decided Tuesday that incumbent Parkway School Board members Sam Sciortino and Tom Appelbaum should keep their positions. Voters selected two of the eight candidates running for the open seats in the Parkway School Board election. Board members serve three-year terms. Sciortino received the most votes, with 5,049 votes, or 21.26 percent. Appelbaum garnered 3,596 votes, or 15.14 percent. School board candidate Jenifer Clifton wasn't far behind with 3,338 votes, or 14.05 percent, but there were only two open seats. Town and Country Approves 2013 Budget

Town and Country aldermen approved the city's 2013 fiscal year budget. It includes an interesting option for city employees in regard to their raises.

This week, the Town and Country Board of Aldermen passed the city's 2013 fiscal year budget. A public hearing was held on the proposed budget prior to the vote Monday night. As previously reported by Patch, City Financial Director Betty Cotner presented the proposed fiscal year 2013 budget to aldermen prior to the Oct. 22 board of aldermen meeting.  Cotner said the city's total budgeted expenditures is $16,518,590 and total revenues is $14,090,700 for FY 2013. Sales tax makes up the majority of city's revenue, with utility taxes second in line and licenses and permit costs coming in third.  However, Cotner said there is a 5.62% percent decrease in general fund revenues from FY 2012's $9,858,650 to $9,304,680 in 2013. Manchester Tackles 2013 City Budget

The Manchester Board of Aldermen discussed the proposed 2013 budget Monday night.

David Tuberty, director of finance for the city of Manchester, gave a presentation on the proposed 2013 fiscal budget Monday to the Manchester Board of Aldermen. The city calculated that there would be projected revenue of all funds combined of $18 million with projected expenditures of $17.6 million for the overall budget. Excess of revenue over expenditure is expected to be $426,859. The city's total fund balance is expected to be $16.5 million at the end of 2013. The general fund, or the city's operating fund, is estimated at $9,223,000 in revenues. Expenditures are estimated at $8,972,964 which is a decrease of $229,182 from last year's budget.
