Additional lighting will be set up on The Principia soccer field this summer. It's expected to benefit the school's athletics program, but not intrude on residents.
Town and Country aldermen recently approved allowing additional lighting to be set up on the soccer fields at The Principia. (For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) School officials explained that the lighting will allow the school to host tournaments and improve the quality of practice time, including allowing student athletes to practice at night when summer heat warnings are issued during the daylight hours. The lights will also allow night games which will school staff said will improve fan attendance because games will be held when more people can attend. The new lights will sit on 50-foot stands and there will be visors around the edges of the actual lights to prevent them from shining away from the field. …

The golf hall of famer's status for next month's Senior PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club is still up in the air.
The dance card of competitors slated to compete at next month's Senior PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club grew once again this week, with the addition of Fred Couples, a wildly popular player on tour who continues to perform at a high level on the regular tour. Couples finished The Masters at (-1) for a tie for 13th place earlier this month after playing in the final pairing Saturday at the PGA Tour's first Major of 2013. Also on the list of new players joining the field: Rocco Mediate, who gained fame for his duel with Tigers Woods at the U.S. Open in 2008. Still not confirmed to play is Vijay Singh, who turned 50 in Februay. Singh has yet to play in a Senior PGA Tour event this season. He's been the subject of scrutiny since his …

Defending champion Roger Chapman says "they won't beat us."
In 2012, an unlikely man from Kenya took the Senior PGA Tour by storm to win the Senior PGA Championship and the Senior US Open in the span of just a few months. Monday, Roger Chapman got a first glimpse at the track he and his competitors will face when the 74th Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid tees off Memorial Day weekend at Bellerive Country Club. Chapman played a round at the course ahead of a media day press conference featuring tour officials and other dignitaries including Missouri Governor Jay Nixon. Chapman compared the course favorably to the Parklands Golf Course in England. Chapman lives in the UK. Patch asked those at the briefing if the events surrounding the bombing at the Boston Marathon had changed any …

The turf on the West Ladue Campus used to be the Wildcats home base.
For Westminster soccer, the game against Ladue Friday was like a homecoming. Only the homecoming was on the road. Westminster returned to play Ladue at the new West Campus facility. Up until a year ago, that was the home to Westminster Christian Academy. The Wildcats used the return occasion to put a 2-0 shutout on the high-flying Rams. A scoreless first half, played in cold, blustery bone-chilling 40 degrees turned into a second-half scoring bonanza for Westminster. Courtney McGhee scored the go-ahead and game winning goal with an assist from Caroline Moore. Also in the second half, a header by Charisse Williams, off a corner kick from Moore was a thing of beauty. She stepped in on goal keeper Fran Shannon to score and pretty much put the…
