Boogaloo  House Made Veggieburger $8.95

7344 Manchester, Maplewood, MO 63143

We’re back to Maplewood for the Tour.  We walked in and for a moment actually pondered on what side of the bar to dine on.  That lasted all of two seconds.  We each grabbed a swing and proceeded to sway.

Herb’s Take

First Bite Words: More spice please.

Their House Made Veggieburger is a solid attempt at a veg burger.  Not skimpy on size in any way, this patty shows up packed with veggies and full of color.  It does a good job of remaining in-tact and not crumbling and falling apart all over the place.  The grill marks, too are a nice touch, though reminiscent of my old George Foreman Grill – not necessarily a bad thing.  With this burger packing it all in visually, I was expecting a bit more in the flavor department.  It is usually served with a volcano sauce, which I’m sure is delicious and really punches up the burger a bit, but that’s not an option for us. If someone is coming in for a vegan burger and IF they make these to order, I’d recommend they add spices to the patty as it would really be something to talk about then.

On a side note, their Vegetable Cubaniche sandwich is incredibly tasty!  The pressed sandwich is oozing with grilled veggies which have definitely been spiced.  We did without the mayo and cheese and I’d be willing to bet it’s even better this way as you really get to experience the flavors of the veggies and the Cuban spice notes they add.

Om’s Take

First bite words: Like the crunch

Good presentation on this one, more “stuff” showing than plate (the last one was just a burger on a 3-acre porcelain plate).  Nice color to the patty—even had sear marks on it.  Any restaurant that has a George Foreman grill makes my A-List.  Reasonable size.  Good portion of fries.  Standard LTOP on the side.

Taste was one of the better ones.  Texture was a bit unusual, though not in a bad way.  It had a flakiness reminiscent of eating a properly prepared fish fillet.  A touch of crunch on the bite, again compliments of George.  Flavor was good to very good, though frankly I can’t put my finger on any particular spice or seasoning.  The menu item includes a “volcano sauce” which we went without (not vegan).  I would give it another shot, particularly with the sauce (big fan of spicy…).  Overall=7.
