Town and Country Zoning Debate Demonstrates Government Responsiveness

Local government was at its best last week in Town and Country.

Nearly 100 citizens attended a Planning and Zoning Commission meeting to object to the development of a new senior living center. The room and foyer overflowed with concerned citizens, and people even sat on the floor after all the seats were taken. In response to the public outcry, the commission voted unanimously against three agenda items related to the construction, including the creation of a new zoning classification.

It is truly wonderful to live in a city where individuals take such an active role in their government. I applaud both the residents of Town and Country for their community involvement and the commission for listening and responding to the clear will of the people.

This meeting clearly demonstrated how governments ought to respond to those they serve. As elected officials make decisions, large or small, constituents’ needs should always be first and foremost in their minds.
