Town and Country Teen Headed to Olympics

Town and Country native Sarah Finnegan has been chosen as one of three alternates on the U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.

A teen who trained at in Webster Groves will soon be heading to London as part of the 2012 Summer Olympic U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team.

Sarah Finnegan will serve as one of three alternates on the women's senior team. That means she won't compete unless one of the gymnasts is injured and she is selected from a pool as a replacement.

Sarah is only 15 and just made the move from the junior to the senior competition.

Patch talked to Sarah's dad, Don Finnegan, who said he and his family are thrilled with Sarah's accomplishment. He said Sarah has worked very hard for this and is a very goal-oriented young lady.

"The journey she's been on has been fantastic, and it's been a family journey," Finnegan said. "Her sisters are also into gymnastics."

According to a story on KSDK-TV, Sarah trained at the  for five years before moving on to an Olympic training center in Kansas City.

The Finnegans' moved to St. Louis in 2000 and Sarah is home-schooled. Don Finnegan lives in West County, and he said his wife and children are currently living in Kansas because of the Olympic training center.

"I travel back and forth a lot," he said.

Patch was unable to talk to Sarah as she is attending an Olympic training camp in Texas. She heads to London on July 19.
