Notebook: Parkway South Baseball Starts 5-0

Parkway South baseball will bring its 5-0 mark into its game against 0-4 Parkway Central.

The Parkway South baseball team will bring its spotless 5-0 season record into its game against 0-4 Parkway Central on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Patriots beat Fox on Wednesday, 12-2.

Parkway South, which went 17-10 last season, will also play at rival Parkway West next Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. Patriots coach Adam Stahl has seen his team score an eye-popping 49 runs in five games, led by seven hitters batting above .333. Senior Danny Holst (8-for-11) and junior Anthony Duke (8-for-12) each have eight hits while junior Eric Kroupa, sophomore Jake Brentz and sophomore James Calloway each have five RBI.

Parkway South plays in the extremely tough Suburban West Conference, and was one of four teams last season who tied for the league title in 2010, including Lafayette, Lindbergh, and Mehlville.

Meanwhile, CBC, another top-ranked area team, is 6-1 and will play at Marquette (2-3) on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Cadets have two players that have been dominant offensively. Senior first baseman Mike Ehrhard is 10-for-20 with eight RBI while teammate senior outfielder Danny Chastain is 7-for-19 with nine RBI.

CBC won its first baseball state championship in 2010 and features senior right-handed star pitcher David Schmidt, who is 1-0 and will play at Stanford next fall.
