New Basketball Coach Justin Tatum Goes Camping At CBC

The first year varsity basketball coach is hosting his first summer hoops camp on the Town and Country school's campus.

For the first time in years, CBC is not playing host to a Bobby McCormack Youth Basketball Camp. The summer staple has moved to St. Louis Priory, along with its namesake after McCormack was not asked back to coach the varsity boys basketball program at the Town and Country school. McCormack is staying on the school faculty at CBC but will coach at Priory starting in the fall.

His CBC successor, Justin Tatum, is busy at work setting up shop, starting with the debut of his own summer camp program, which he hopes will one day be thought of as a "must-attend" like McCormack's. After years of running camps for Larry Hughes and others, this time Tatum's name is the one on campers' shirts.

"Just to see a nice turnout for my first time out here, people trusting me with their kids, help them get better and develop their skills, at least have fun for the summer it's been pretty good," Tatum said Tuesday during a lunch break.

He's in the middle of the second of two week long sessions, and starting Monday will offer camps tailored to "big man" skills and guard development, featuring more 1 on 1 attention. More information on those camps, including registration information, can be found here.

Tatum hopes to complete his coaching staff by the end of the month.
"All of the good people are really taken," he joked. "You have to really find out who you want to be on your staff espcially in a situation like this at a high prestigious school such as CBC. You just cannot have newcomeers or first timers or things like that. You gotta have somebody that you trust, understands the game is gonna have your back," he added.
