Goaltending Key in Challenge Cup Game Between CBC and SLUH

When it comes to hockey, hot goaltending win championships. 

And both teams facing off in Monday's Challenge Cup championship game feel as if they have the best between the pipes.

Goaltending will certainly take center stage during Mid-States High School Hockey League premier championship as together CBC and SLUH—a pair of Southwest Division rivals—boast five of the best goalies in the state. 

That's notable when you consider both clubs also possess some of the most talented scorers in the St. Louis-area as well. 

The puck is set to drop in the Challenge Cup championship game at 8 p.m. at Scottrade Center in downtown St. Louis. 

The likely goaltending matchup is CBC senior Joe O'Brien against SLUH junior Brenden Haselhurst. 

Here's how the goalies stack up in this game: 

CBC and SLUH split its season series against each other, with SLUH winning the first game between the two 2-1 on Nov. 30 and CBC winning the regular season finale 4-1 on Jan. 25.

Both teams feature a 20-goal scorer in CBC's freshman sensation Andrew McGlynn (21 goals) and SLUH's senior forward Nick Walters (26 goals). 

Walters, when combined with senior forward Chase Berger, form a dynamic scoring punch that can strike at any time. Berger is amongst St. Louis points leaders with 15 goals and 21 assists for 36 points. 

CBC is looking to repeat as Mid-States champion and is no stranger to the Challenge Cup stage. Largely regarded as one of the premier hockey schools in the state, CBC has won 12 Mid-States championships, including three-peats from 2007-2009 and 2003-2005.
