Twenty seven seniors at CBC confirmed their college choices officially on Wednesday, the first day seniors in Football, Baseball and other sports could sign letters of intent to play at the college level.
The school held an assembly in the Gundaker Theater Wednesday morning to celebrate the day, which for football fans has become something of an unofficial holiday.
Two key cogs in the Cadet football program's ascent in recent years were front and center for the festivities. Aarion Penton was among the first to fax in his letter of intent to the University of Missouri football program early Wednesday.
"It was Mizzzou first and it stayed Mizzou...Mizzou all the way," he said when asked if any other programs had tried to sway him. While the Tigers have lost on a few recruits who were slated to play at wide receiver, Penton said he's slotted to be on the other side of the ball in Columbia. “They want me to go down and play corner and special teams so I should be a big factor on that defense." Penton was born in Columbia.
The biggest drama of the day was where running back Jonathan Parker would end up. After giving a verbal pledge in the fall to Tulsa, Parker took an official visit to Iowa. Parker put a hat inside a bag at his place on the stage prior to the ceremony, although his black shirt and yellow bowtie was a sign that he would end up with the Hawkeyes.
"Wherever you go you have to be happy for the next four or five years and just off my official visit to Tulsa and Iowa I had a better time at Iowa," Parker said, adding that Kirkwood's Andre Harris, who also signed with Iowa Wednesday, had played a part in helping decide it was worth it to make a visit to the Iowa campus. The proximity to Iowa City appeared to play a large factor in the decision to go play for Kirk Ferentz's program in the Big Ten.
Parker said he expects to see time at wide receiver and special teams, where he was a dangerous return man on kickoffs and punts.
